PORT ANGELES – Peninsula College sophomore midfielder Tatiana Hagan signed a national letter of intent Friday to continue her collegiate soccer career at the University of Kentucky.
Head coach Kanyon Anderson said he was excited about Tatiana’s opportunity to play at the Division I level in the Southeastern Conference.
“Playing in the SEC will be awesome. She will get a chance to play against national team-level players and players from all over the world,” Anderson said. “Kentucky is a young team and they are looking to add some leadership, which Tot will provide.”
Hagan, who followed her sister Tori to Peninsula from Reno, Nev., started at the midfield position for 20 of 22 games for the 2018 Northwest Athletic Conference champions.
“It has been a privilege and an honor to have spent the last 2 ½ years here at Peninsula College,” said Hagan, a medical red-shirt sophomore who suffered a season ending injury in 2017. “I am so very thankful for all the time and effort that has been put into me and helped me to become not only the player I am today, but the person I am today as well. Playing at PC has taught me many lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, as well as gifting me with memories I will cherish.”
“I would like to say thank you to everybody who has impacted my life here, with special thanks to my coaches, and teammates, and my family,” she added. “I’m excited to bring all that I’ve learned here with me as I move on to play at the University of Kentucky.”
Coach Anderson said it was her hard work and dedication, on and off the field, that vaulted her to the Division I level.
“Tot has earned this opportunity through hard work and dedication,” Anderson said. “She has been an awesome leader for us and I’m really excited for her to have this great opportunity.”
She will join some other recent Pirate grads who are playing at the Division I level. 2017 NWAC Player of the Year Sydney Warren is at the University of Portland, sisters Emilee Small and Ellie Small are both at the University of Nevada and Lexi Kreiger just finished up at Alabama State.
Nine of Hagan’s teammates are also likely to be moving on, as the signing period is just now underway.
