FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Loggers’ Lee rushes for 330 yards; Budneks score 5 TDs for Quilcene

JOYCE — Crescent’s Wyatt Lee had a monster day, rushing for 330 yards on 35 carries and scoring four touchdowns against Mary M. Knight in a 40-8 victory.

Lee had touchdown runs of 15, 8, 14 and 15 yards. He also had an interception on defense. Coach Brian Shimko said it was the biggest rushing day any Crescent runner had enjoyed since Noah Leonard, an all-state running back for the Loggers who had some huge yardage totals two and three years ago for Crescent.

“Someone said to me, ‘it’s like watching Noah out there,’ ” Shimko said.

In addition to Lee’s big day, Brenten Dalton had two touchdown runs of 22 and 26 yards. He ended up with 38 yards rushing on eight carries and 62 yards receiving on four catches. He also had an interception on defense.

Weston Hart had 64 yards passing and also had an interception on defense. He ended up with 14 tackles, including nine solo tackles, and five pass deflections.

Jayden Tejano also scored a safety for Crescent.

Shimko said about the only thing that went wrong for the Loggers on the day was too many penalties. Crescent had at least 80 yards of penalties, he said.

Crescent (2-1) does not have a game scheduled yet for next week but is working on finding a six-man opponent, Shimko said.

Quilcene 40, Tacoma Baptist 6

QUILCENE — The Budnek family accounted for five total touchdowns in a 40-6 Quilcene victory over Tacoma Baptist.

Bishop Budnek scored on 47- and 20-yard runs, while Zach Budnek scored on 7- and 65-yard pass receptions. Deakon Budnek also blocked a punt, which Bishop Budnek scooped up and ran in for a 7-yard touchdown.

Ashton Johnston also had a 10-yard run for a touchdown, and Isaiah Reinmann kicked four extra points. Nathan Kieffer threw the two touchdown passes to Zach Budnek.

Bishop Budnek ended up with 157 yards rushing on 14 carries. Kevin Alejo had two interceptions, one of which included a 30-yard return. He also had 13 tackles.

“He had a great defensive game,” said coach Trey Beathard.

Zach Budnek had 12 tackles while Cash Thacker had eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Johnston had nine tackles and Jeremy Allen had an interception. Beathard said Allen, a ninth-grader, already has a good ability to get in position to create turnovers.

“Jeremy is fun to watch. He puts himself in the right spot. He just has a knack for the ball,” Beathard said.

Beathard said the Rangers played a great game defensively, but the offense had some issues.

“We had a lot of fumbles. A lot of bad exchanges,” he said.

Beathard said the Rangers’ defensive starters have only given up one touchdown all season.

Quilcene (3-0) is scheduled to play a rare Friday night game on the road at Muckleshoot.
