Boys soccer
Forks 14, Ilwaco 0
FORKS — The Forks boys soccer team had a huge blowout win over a young Ilwaco team 14-0 in their final home match Friday.
“We were expecting to win, but not by that much,” said coach Ismael Ramos.
The Spartans were led by Arturo Dominguez and Nova Raupp, who each had hat tricks.
Ramos said the team concentrated on its passing with the lopsided score.
“I think we actually passed the ball around pretty good, actually,” he said. “It was nice to have that for our last home game.”
The Spartans (3-11) don’t have a chance to make postseason, but can play spoiler in their final game Wednesday at Tenino (6-7). Tenino needs to win that game to qualify for postseason. The Spartans had a close 5-3 loss early this season to Tenino.
“We want to go in there and be the bad guys,” Ramos said.
North Kitsap 7, Port Angeles 0
POULSBO — A shorthanded Port Angeles boys soccer team struggled on the road Friday against league-leading North Kitsap, dropping their match 7-0.
“Port Angeles went into the game missing 4 starters against league 2A leader North Kitsap. The Riders defending was not very tidy early in the first half and the Vikings capitalized on some rider poor positioning to get their first couple goals,” said coach Chris Saari. “Port Angeles made some changes at halftime and played a mix of JV, swing and varsity players in the second half. The Vikings scored another three goals spread out throughout the second half.”
Saari said Grant Butterworth had a strong performance for the Roughriders at center-back and that Max Baeder also put in a solid shift at left back for the Riders. He named Butterworth and Baeder his offensive players of the match.
Saari said the Riders will look to keep recovering from their injuries before three remaining home league games all next week, beginning with Bainbridge at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.
The Riders (6-5, 18 points, 8-5-0 overall) are in a battle for second place among the 2A teams in the Olympic League, with 3A Bainbridge (11-1, 12-2 overall) leading the league with North Kitsap. Port Angeles is tied with Brm
The Riders varsity also plays a critical game Thursday against Bremerton (6-6, 18 points; 7-6-0 overall) at 6:45 p.m. and have a day game next Saturday at noon against Kingston (4-7, 11 points; 4-8-1).
