GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bailee Larson’s big game boosts Port Angeles over Bainbridge

Riders, Sequim and Neah Bay all win

BAINBRIDGE — With Bainbridge focusing much of their defensive attention on Eve Burke and without their point guard Grace Colburn, Port Angeles took advantage on the way to a 60-23 Olympic League girls basketball win Tuesday.

“Bainbridge played much of the game in a box-and-one on Eve Burke,” Roughriders coach Michael Poindexter said. “The way we responded to that left quite a few open shots for the rest of the Riders. The middle wasn’t open for much of the night, so we ended up taking nearly as many 3s [29] as two-point shots [31]. Five different players made three-point shots for us, led by Bailee Larson’s four 3s and Jenna McGoff’s three 3s.”

Larson led all scorers with 19 points with five assists and three steals.

“Bailee Larson had an outstanding overall game for us,” Poindexter said. “Bainbridge’s defense shifted between four different looks, and she led a smooth offensive adjustment to each defense.”

Poindexter said Piper Williams had “an excellent game off the bench” with seven points and four steals.

Port Angeles (7-1, 8-4) is scheduled to host North Kitsap tonight.
