BONNEY LAKE — The Port Angeles girls basketball team lost on the road to Bonney Lake in the last North Olympic Peninsula high school sports contest of 2013.
The Class 2A Roughriders played the 3A Panthers tight the entire game. Only in the third quarter did Bonney Lake outscore Port Angeles.
“Bonney Lake played a good match-up zone; we were plagued by turnovers against it in the second half, plus quite a few missed shots, both from the perimeter and near the hoop,” Riders coach Michael Poindexter said of Monday’s game.
“On the whole, I thought we rebounded well, with Bailee Jones and Maddie Boe leading us in that department.”
Jones grabbed 10 rebounds and Boe had nine.
Maddy Hinrichs paced Port Angeles’ scoring attack with 12 points. Boe added seven, Jones finished with six and Krista Johnson had five.
The Riders, who were coming off a three-point road win over Burlingon-Edison last week, fell to 8-2 on the season (6-0 in the Olympic League).
“Another positive thing to take away from the game was our ability to attack their three-quarter-court press, something we were also able to do against Burlington-Edison,” Poindexter said.
“We just need to continue to work to get the best shots we can in our offense and make more of those shots.”
Port Angeles is off for more than a week before hosting Sequim (4-1, 4-5) on Friday, Jan. 10.
