■ Playing style: “Working on a possession game — with 6 new starters it will take a while to gel as everyone adjusts to this,” Moseley said.
■ Outlook: “When everything is clicking, we have high expectations to make it into the postseason,” Moseley said.
“We have a thin bench this year, so reducing injuries and managing playing time is important.
“The captains have really worked hard on creating a positive team atmosphere and bringing the younger players into the system.”
Sequim
■ Coach: Victor and Julie Lancheros, third year.
■ Last year’s record: 4-12.
■ Returning starters: Mattie Clark (11, D); Hannah Gauthan (12, M/D); Gretchen Happe (11, M/F); Shelby Lott (12, D/GK); Bianca Espinoza (12, GK); Shae Barrett (12, D); Lisa Radford (12, M/F); Chloie Sparks (10, F/M).
■ Top newcomers: Adare McMinn (9, F/M); Abby Hanstead (10, M/F); Claire Henniger (9, F/M).
■ Player to watch: Abby Hanstead.
■ Style: Tactical and smart.
■ Outlook: The Wolves want to make it to the district playoffs.
To do so, co-head coach Julie Lancheros said they’ll need to “work hard and play as a team.”
Port Townsend
■ Coach: Colin Foden, third year.
■ Last year’s record: 0-16.
■ Returning starters: Malia Henderson (GK), McKinzie Ginther (D), Shenoa Snyder (D), Emily Franklin (F), Rosemary D’Andrea (D).
■ Top newcomers: Kaitlyn Meek (M), Tyler Iseke-Wade (M).
■ Player to watch: Mia Henderson and Kaitlyn Meek.
■ Style: Counter-attacking and organized defensively.
■ Outlook: The Redhawks are still rebuilding the program with small (14 players), inexperienced squad.
“Looking to gel as a team and improve throughout the season,” Foden said.
“We need to be fit, have very few injuries and focus on team play.”
Forks
■ Coach: Joe Morton, first year.
■ Last year’s record: Season canceled.
■ Returning starters: None, but Forks has five seniors eager for some game action: Ashley Edwards, Tristina Smith, Rani Banks, Rebekah Johanson and Marianna Gomez.
■ Top newcomers: Two new students to the school, Payton Harding and Ashley Edwards, that Morton thinks will give the Spartans a chance to score some goals this season.
■ Player to watch: Banks is a defensive leaders who also has shown she can take a good shot and put it in the net.
■ Style: “We will have to play with a defensive mind set due to the fact we are basically a new team playing against the other established teams in the [Evergreen] League,” Morton said.
■ Outlook: The Spartans are rebuilding a program that didn’t have enough players for a team in 2013. Morton said the focus will be growing as a team and finishing the season.
“We will have to play a tough, smothering defense as well as taking advantage of scoring opportunities when we can,” Morton said.
Chimacum
■ Coach: J.J. Joyce, first year.
■ Last year’s record: 0-15.
■ Returning starters: Kyah McKinlay, (jr., GK); Mechelle Nisbet (soph.); Alisha Leoso, (sr., D).
■ Outlook: Another area team rebuilding and loaded with youth.
