SEQUIM — Eric Bower of Sequim won the gross trophy with a fantastic third round of 69 to win the Clallam County Amateur.
Meanwhile, winning the net was Marine Hirschfeld, also of Sequim, with a 206, winning by one stroke over Harry Phillips and two over Terry Ankerfelt, Jim McCausland and Tim Brown.
“All three courses [Peninsula Golf Club, Sunland and The Cedars at Dungeness] were in great shape,” said Garrett Smithson, head pro at the Cedars at Dungeness.
“We had our largest field in the four years of the event’s existence. Players from as far as Bellingham made their way to the event. In total there were 72 players,” Smithson said.
Bower had the best round of the day on Sunday at Cedars at Dungeness with his 69, jumping up the leaderboard to the top. He had a 75 on Friday at Peninsula and a 78 Saturday at Sunland for a 222 total score. He beat Michael Dupuis by three strokes. Jack Shea came in third with a 226.
Bower won a purse of $325, with Dupuis taking home $200 and Shea $150.
Jim McCausland won the second flight with a 233, winning a purse of $275, while Tim Brown won the third flight with a 264, also winning a $275 purse.
Hirschfeld had net scores of 67, 68 and 71 over the three days. She won a purse of $325 and won the third flight net.
Ankerfelt took the first flight top net with his 208, winning a purse of $275. Harry Phillips won the second flight net with a 207 and collected a purse of $275.
