GYMNASTICS: Harper-Smith takes gold at Xcel state championships

KENNEWICK — The Klahhane Gymnastics Gold Division Team finished their season at the Xcel State Championships March 29-31 at the Southridge Sports and Events Complex in Kennewick, winning several medals at the meet.

Doing the best was Mei Ying Harper-Smith, who topped the field in the Senior D age group, scoring 37.375 to take the gold all-around medal. Harper-Smith also took three individual event medals — gold on uneven bars ( 9.625), gold on balance beam (9.750) and sixth on vault (9.00).

In the Junior Division, Junior C age group, Kayli Sexton grabbed the seventh place all-around medal with a 35.875 and picked up individual fifth-place medals with scores of 9.00 on the vault and the beam. She also took eighth on the floor, scoring 9.175.

Jessamyn Schindler, competing in Junior A age group, finished with 35.725, good for 11th all-around. She received individual medals for fourth place on the vault 9.20 and ninth on uneven bars 9.25.
