GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles gymnasts win sub-districts

AUBURN — Port Angeles took first place in the Olympic-Pierce County League-South Sound Conference 2A/3A Subdistricts meet.

The Roughriders, along with Sequim gymnasts, competed against Bonney Lake, Capital, Kingston, North Thurston, North Kitsap and Timberline in the Thursday meet.

Port Angeles won the event with 149.15 points, edging out Timberline with 140 and the full Roughriders squad will advance to the West Central District 3 State Qualifying gym meet on Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

Also making it to Districts are Elizabeth Sweet and Lesae Pfeffer of Sequim. Sweet advanced with her scores on the vault and the floor exercise. Pfeffer qualified in the beam and the floor exercises.

Port Angeles’ Maya Wharton was second in overall points, while Cassii Middlestead was seventh. Wharton had three second-place finishes and a third place, while Middlestead had a second- and a fourth-place finish.

Wharton, second, 9.075; Miner, fourth, 8.825; Middlestead, eighth, 8.35; Nikaila Price, ninth, 8.27.

All-Around

Wharton, second, 31.875; Middlestead, seventh, 30.025.
