PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties got spectacular pitching against Kamloops and had chances to pull out a victory in the seventh and eighth innings, but never got the big hit to turn the tide in a 3-1 loss at Civic Field.
Monday night’s game was a make up of a game rained out in early June.
Four Lefties pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts. John Pfeffer had the best showing, going 3⅓ innings, allowing one hit and two walks and striking out six. Starter Dillon Dibrell took the loss. He went three innings, allowed four hits and two earned runs. He walked one and struck out four.
Andrew Quinones went 1⅔ innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out one. Andrew Monson went one inning in the ninth, allowed a hit and a walk, but struck out the side to keep the NorthPaws off the board.
The Lefties scored their run in the sixth without the benefit of a hit. Derek Bogh was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on a fly ball by Mason Persons and scored on a groundout to second base by Colin Curry.
Leaving runners on base has been hurting the Lefties all season and this game was no exception as Port Angeles stranded 13 total runners. Eight hits and five walks resulted in just one run.
Port Angeles had a couple of golden opportunities late in the game. In the seventh inning, the Lefties got a leadoff walk from BY Choi and a single from Adam Pagenelli. They moved up to second and third base on a groundout by Weston Peninger, but Port Angeles couldn’t drive in a run as Bogh struck out and Persons hit a flyball out.
In the eighth inning, Devean Alvarez hit a one-out double and moved to third on a fly out, but the Lefties couldn’t bring him home. The Lefties also stranded two runners on base in the first, second and fourth innings.
Paganelli finished 3-for-5 while Alvarez was 2-for-2 with two walks.
The Lefties (14-25) play three nonleague games next against Redmond. They played Tuesday after press deadline and play again at 6:35 p.m. today at Civic Field.
