LEFTIES: Port Angeles stumbles in road loss

Peninsula Daily News

KELOWNA, B.C. — Port Angeles ruffled the Kelowna Falcons’ feathers early, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings, but the Lefties couldn’t keep up the offensive barrage and ended up losing a 12-6 slugfest.

Wednesday’s game featured 27 total hits, 12 by Port Angeles, including a 3 for 5 performance with two doubles and two RBIs by Matt Christian.

Kelowna pitcher Isaac Olson came on in relief and shut the door on the Lefties in 5.1 innings of work, allowing no runs and scattering three hits with two strikeouts to earn the win.

Port Angeles’ Thomas Ruwe picked up the loss after giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in just 0.1 of an inning.

Trent Tinglestad did much of the heavy lifting for the Falcons, going 4 for 5 with two runs, a two-run home run and four RBIs.

The loss gave the series win to Kelowna. The Lefties’ attempt at avoiding a series sweep ended after deadline Thursday night.

Port Angeles (10-13) will open a three-game series today through Sunday on the road in Longview against the Cowlitz Black Bears.

A nine-game homestand, the Lefties’ longest of the season, will begin Monday against Kelowna. This includes a July 4 contest with a special 7:35 p.m. start time.
