MEN’S BASKETBALL: Hot-shooting Peninsula wins second straight North Region game

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College received excellent production from its starting five to outshoot Bellevue in an 89-71 NWAC North Region men’s basketball victory on Wednesday.

The Pirates hit 35 of 67 shots from the field (52.2 percent) to edge the Bulldogs (26 of 54, 48 percent).

Peninsula hit nearly 50 percent from beyond the 3-point line, canning 9 of 20 treys, and hit 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Javon Ervin led the way for the Pirates with 27 points on 11 of 19 shooting. Ervin grabbed five rebounds with four assists and a steal.

Ese Onakpoma continued his strong play for Peninsula with a 25-point performance, hitting 10 of 18 from the floor, including 3 of 5 on 3s. He also had five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

Aiden Olmstead had a strong night on the glass, leading all players in rebounds with 12 and notching a double-double with 14 points.

Olmstead also had three steals and an assist.

Peninsula (2-1, 9-8) hosts winless Olympic (0-2, 0-14) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
