PUMP THE BRAKES a bit on the Clallam Amateur Tournament.
Last week I had information that sign-ups were underway with the three-day event in mid-July.
That was a bit of a tight lie in terms of time to register, so organizers are pushing things back to an as yet unscheduled date.
Check my column for details on the date, when organizers know I’ll let you know.
Port Townsend break-in
Good news from the Port Townsend Golf Club where a burgler was caught red-handed by Port Townsend Police officers on Sunday evening.
The alleged perpetrator was found inside the clubhouse with burglary tools and more than $9,000 in his possession just before 10 p.m.
He had pried his way into the clubhouse, broke into the safe, opened cash registers and was also found with change in his pants pockets.
Thankfully, the clubhouse alarm helped get the police dispatched and they were able to catch the alleged perp in the act without further harm.
“We would like to personally thank the Port Townsend Police Department for their quick response to the alarm and the arrest of the burgler,” Port Townsend’s Gabriel Tonan wrote.
Back to normal
In more normal Port Townsend golf news, the course will hold a $10 skins game with reduced greens fees today.
Golf pro/course operator Mike Early checked in with information on Saturday’s Independence Day Scramble.
The blind-draw scramble will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a $30 entry fee and reduced greens fees of $10 for nonmembers.
Port Townsend’s Thursday Gangsome, a nine-hole individual skins game, is $10 with reduced greens fees for nonmembers.
A team competition is $5 with greens fees $17.50 for teams.
Team competition starts at noon, so sign up at 11:30 a.m., warm up and let the staff pair you up.
Early also reported that Port Townsend’s first Junior Golf Camp of the summer was “a huge success.”
Twenty-two students came out for the clinic.
Early thanked volunteers Buddy O’Meara, Ben Krabill and Cody Piper for their efforts in helping him teach the camp, “without their help it wouldn’t have been possible,” Early added.
Port Townsend will hold its next Junior Golf Camp from 9 a.m. to noon July 24-26.

Discovery Bay events
The course will hold a Red, White and Blue Scramble today.
Single players can get in touch with the pro shop to sign up.
Discovery Bay’s Junior Golf Camp for ages 7 to 17 will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 16-18.
Cost is $50 and includes a golf hat.
Dan Swindler will coach the camp, and is also available for private lessons.

SunLand Junior camp
SunLand Golf & Country Club in Sequim will hold a Junior Golf Camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 23-26.

Golf to the fullest
SunLand pro/general manager Tyler Sweet passed along a feat from SunLand Men’s Club member Bob Fuller.
Fuller, 86, recently shot a 76 under some trying (and “illegal”) circumstances while playing in the club’s U.S. Open Mixer.
“The pins were tucked and on slopes, half of them were not legal,” Sweet said.
“I thought this [Fuller’s 76] was pretty amazing due to the fact players were four-putting on a majority of the greens.”
Lady Niners tourney
Sequim’s Cedars at Dungeness Lady Niners will hold their Jokers Wild Invitational on Thursday, July 19.
Check-in will begin at 11 a.m. with tee-off at 1 p.m.
Results will be announced during a lasagna feed following play.

Rally For the Cure
The annual Rally For the Cure benefit golf tournament will be held at Port Ludlow Golf Club on Thursday, July 12.
This nine-hole tournament is open to both male and female golfers.
Mulligans may be purchased to support the cause, and prizes will be awarded.
Sign-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a group photo at 8:30 a.m. and a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Following golf, the Rally Luncheon with raffles and door prizes will be held at the Port Ludlow Bay Club.
Cost for golf, a cart and the luncheon is $45 for Port Ludlow members and $65 for nonmembers.
Those not playing in the tournament can enjoy a catered lunch from Applebee’s for $10.

SkyRidge Stars/Stripes
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will hold its Stars and Stripes golf tournament Saturday, July 14.
The two-person event will feature three formats in 27 holes of play.
Cost is $80 per team and includes range balls, food and competition money.
A honey pot is an extra $20.

State Senior Games
Golfers 50 and older by Dec. 31 are eligible to play in the Washington State Senior Games Golf Tournament on Thursday, July 19.
Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at Lacey’s The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie (Links Course).
Cost is $50 and includes a cart.
Registration should be turned in or postmarked by July 16.

Hardy Hole-in-One
Sequim resident Brad Hardy notched his first career hole-in-one last week during Merchants League play at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim.
Hardy used a pitching wedge and a Callaway ball on the 145-yard No. 8 hole.
