NEAH BAY — The hiring of two head coaches to fill Neah Bay’s football and girls basketball positions after longtime coach Tony McCaulley stepped down has been completed, Neah Bay athletic director Michael Brunstad confirmed Wednesday.
“We have TJ Greene promoted to head football coach,” Brunstad said. “We still have to figure out who will be his assistant there but that should be taken care of by August.”
Greene served as defensive coordinator under McCaulley.
“He’s taken the reins and is leading the team through our usual summer 7 on 7 football activities,” Brunstad said.
Brunstad said Greene and the Red Devils will host their home opener on a refurbished grass field when they take on Quilcene on Friday, Sept. 14.
“We’ve resodded our football field and nobody is practicing on it, so the first time anybody will play on that field will be that first home game,” Brunstad said.
“We won’t practice on that field and Neah Bay little league isn’t going to be practicing on it.”
Brunstad said former Neah Bay boys basketball assistant Jeff Sawyer will head up the girls basketball after being hired earlier this week.
“He’s the assistant track coach now and was an assistant for Ben Maxson [in 2016-17],” Brunstad said.
“Jeff also coached girls basketball for about 10 years at Cusick.”
Brunstad said the girls assistant coaching position is open.
