PORT ANGELES — For the second year in a row, Elks won the Cal Ripken Majors championship, beating the Eagles 7-3 in the championship game this weekend.
It was also the third year in a row that five of the Elks players were in a championship game.
Elks capped off a perfect 12-0 season with the victory. They outscored their opponents 126-28 in those wins.
This was the first year that the majors went to a 50/70 field and rules. The Elks had been playing 60/40. In 50/70, the pitching rubber is 50 feet away from home plate and the bases are 70 feet apart. Also, runners are allowed to take a lead and normal dropped third strike rules apply.
Jay Merritt, Kyler Williams and Cooper Merritt all pitched in the championship game.
Julian Dominguez had an RBI and scored two runs, including one run by stealing home. Julian Wells, Kade Johnstad and Williams all had RBIs.
There were champions crowned in various divisions, including senior fastpitch, 12U fastpitch, 12U minors fastpitch and AAA baseball. Look for team photos of the league winners all week in the Peninsula Daily News sports section.
