PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles made the bi-district volleyball tournament that begins Wednesday, while Sequim, second in the Olympic 2A league and the Olympic League Tournament, gets a No. 8 seed.
Port Angeles was seeded 14th based on its rating percentage index. The Roughriders will play No. 9 seed Fife (10-7 overall) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Washington High School.
Sequim (11-6 overall), which lost to powerhouse North Kitsap in the Olympic League championship this weekend, got bit of a bad break with a No. 8 seed, having to play No. 1 seed Washington (15-1) in the first match at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Pierce.
While that first-round matchup is tough, Sequim does get a very doable route to qualifying for state in the later rounds. In the second round, also played on Wednesday, the Wolves will play either No. 16 seed Lindbergh or No. 10 seed Kingston. Sequim ultimately could end up playing either No. 12 seed Foster or No. 13 seed Olympic in the winner-to-state match Saturday.
Port Angeles (5-9 overall), meanwhile, will have to play either No. 7 seed Enumclaw or No. 2 Sammamish in the second round.
North Kitsap is also in the bi-district tournament as a No. 3 seed while Kingston is a No. 10 seed and Olympic a No. 13 seed.
Neah Bay at state
The undefeated Neah Bay Red Devils (11-0) begin playing at the state 1B tournament on Thursday at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Neah Bay is a No. 5 seed and will begin by playing No. 12 seed Waterville-Mansfield at 1:30 p.m. Win or lose, the Red Devils will play a second game at 8:15 p.m. against either Odessa, Wilson Creek or republic.
The 1B tournament wraps up Friday.
