PORT ANGELES — The Lefties split their first two West Coast League home games at Civic Field in a doubleheader Saturday.
Saturday was a doubleheader because Friday’s game with Kamloops was rained out. Sunday’s game at Civic Field was delayed a couple of times due to rain and finished after press deadline. Look for results online at www.peninsuladailynews.com and in Tuesday’s print edition.
Port Angeles bats erupted in the Lefties’ home opener in an 8-2 win over the NorthPaws, then a Kamloops home run in the top of the ninth inning was the difference in a 5-4 loss in the nightcap.
In the early game, the Lefties erupted for six runs in the second inning and never looked back. Riley Parker (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-4 with four RBIs with his big blow a three-run, bases-loaded single in the second inning. Jesh Leckey (New Mexico Military Institute) and Gabriel DeJesus each had a hit, a run and an RBI.
On the mound, a trio of pitchers allowed just three hits in the shortened game. Dillon Dribell (Northern Oklahoma), started the game and went three innings and allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks. He struck out five.
Josh Flaugher (Edmonds College) earned the victory. He went three innings, allowed no hits and one earned run on three walks and two strikeouts. Will Isaly pitched a scoreless seventh. He walked two, but allowed no hits and struck out one.
In the nightcap, the Lefties got up 4-0 on Kamloops after five innings, but the NorthPaws clawed their way back, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to knot the game up at 4-4. Kamloops went ahead when Zack Beatty hit a home run in the top of the ninth. The Lefties were three up, three down in the bottom of the ninth.
BY Choi (New Mexico Military Institute) had a double and scored a run while Trey Maeker (Fordham) hit a solo home run. Munoz had a two-run single and Parker had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
