Roughriders improve to 5-0 on the season

BREMERTON — Port Angeles’ Colton Romero pitched his second straight no-hitter, this one a five-inning complete-game gem, as the Roughriders baseball team remained red-hot in a 10-0 victory over Olympic.

Romero hasn’t allowed a hit in nine innings pitched this season. He struck out nine and walked two. His no-hitter last week was a combined gem with Brayden Martin.

The Riders have been scary good in their past four games. Port Angeles has outscored its opponents 38-1 over those four games, with three of the four games ending after five innings. Roughrider pitchers have allowed just five hits in the team’s past 22 innings.

Romero threw just 86 pitches, with 50 of them strikes.

Port Angeles’ bats have been somewhat overshadowed by the fantastic pitching, but the Riders are averaging 10 runs a game.

Alex Angevine and Ezra Townsend led the way Tuesday. Angevine was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. He walked once and stole two bases. Townsend hit two doubles, going 3-for-4 for the day with four RBIs.

Romero had two hits in four at-bats to keep his on-base percentage at .619. Trae Hanan was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Nate Basden was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.

Port Angeles (3-0, 5-0) hosts Olympic (0-2, 2-2) at Civic Field at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

North Kitsap 7, Sequim 1

POULSBO — The Sequim baseball team found itself locked in a tight pitchers’ duel with North Kitsap until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Vikings finally broke through with six runs in two innings en route to a 7-1 victory.

Ethan Staples started and allowed just one run over the first four innings, including three straight scoreless innings in the second, third and fourth. Staples ended up allowing three earned runs in four innings. He gave up five hits and three walks while striking our four.

At the plate, the Wolves were held to two hits, both by Brayden White. Lincoln Bear scored a run for the Wolves in the fourth. Bear got on base on an error and moved around to third after a hit batsman and a single by White. He came in to score on a fielder’s choice grounder by Staples.

Sequim (1-3, 1-3) hosts North Kitsap (2-0, 3-2) at 4:15 p.m. today.

QUILCENE — Forks got big games from Gunner Rogers, Landen Olson and Landin Davis while beating Quilcene 14-2.

Rogers was 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs at the plate and pitched three innings, striking out five. David was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Olson hit a triple, scored three runs, drove in one run, walked three times and stole two bases.

Bubba Hernandez walked twice, scored three runs and stole three bases. He also pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. He struck out two. Aiden Salazar had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.

For Quilcene Taylor Boling was 1-for-3 and drove in both of the Rangers’ runs in the fourth inning. Oliver Hopkins and Eli Allen each had hits and scored a run, while Jayden Love and Jayden Minish each stole two bases.

Forks (1-1-1) plays a doubleheader today at Chief Leschi. Quilcene (0-3) plays Friday at Concrete.
