CHIMACUM — Freshman Michael Young made his debut for the Sequim baseball team and immediately made a big impact both at the plate and on the mound in an 8-3 Wolves’ win over Chimacum.
Young in his first-ever varsity game went 2 for 2 with a double, two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. He also started the game on the mound and pitched three shutout innings, giving up zero hits and just one walk.
Joey Oliver also had two hits for Sequim, while Ian Miller had three walks, three stolen bases and scored two runs. Johnnie Young scored two runs, stole two bases and had an RBI.
The Wolves, who were a terror on the basepaths last season, began the season using their speed as a weapon again, stealing 10 bases.
Silas Thomas pitched a scoreless inning for Sequim, giving up two hits, while Oliver struck out two batters in an inning and a third.
For the Cowboys, Matthew Bainbridge had two hits and Aaron Serrato had a pair of walks. Issac Purser had a hit, a run and an RBI for Chimacum, while Carson McConnell had a hit, a stolen base and an RBI.
Bainbridge started the game for Chimacum and took the loss, giving up just one earned run in two innings and striking out two. Serrato had a good pitching performance for Chimacum, going three innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. Chimacum pitchers struck out a total of seven batters.
Sequim (1-0) was scheduled to open Olympic League 2A Division play against Olympic Tuesday, but that game was postponed due to weather. That game has been set for 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Sequim.
Chimacum (0-2) had a game scheduled Tuesday against Forks that was also postponed. The Cowboys are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. today against Coupeville in an Olympic League 1A Division game.

COUPEVILLE — The Port Angeles tennis girls swept Coupeville in singles’ play and split in doubles’ play in their opening match of the year.
Summer Olsen won her match 6-0, 6-0, while Hailey Horton won 6-1, 6-0 and Kailey Droz won 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles’ play Paulina Crawford and Madison Saiz won their match 6-2, 6-2 and Hanna Brown and Emily Rygaard won theirs 6-0, 6-2.
The Roughrider girls (1-0) are scheduled to play at North Kitsap at 1 p.m. today.
Sequim 5, Olympic 2
BREMERTON — The Sequim tennis girls beat Olympic to win their opening meet of the year.
Kali Wiker won her singles’ match 6-0, 6-0, while Tea Gauthun won her match 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles’ play, Ashley Rosales and Olivia Preston won their match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 and Arlene Law and Eden Johnson won theirs 6-2, 6-1. Amanda Hee and Emily Bundy went to three sets to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. McKenna Hastings and Isabelle Hugenort lost a close doubles’ match 6-4, 6-4.
Sequim (1-0) is scheduled to host North Mason at 4 p.m. today.
