PREP BASKETBALL: Forks boys remain unbeaten while Spartans girls pick up first win

FORKS — The Spartan boys basketball squad remained undefeated on the season, getting out to a 21-0 lead and cruising to an easy 72-17 win over an outmatched Class 1B Lake Quinault team.

Marky Adams scored 15 points, while Jeffrey Schumack scored 14 and Austin Flores had 12 in Tuesday’s win.

“Everyone got to play and everyone worked hard,” said Forks coach Rick Gooding.

“It was nice to see different guys score and that some different guys can step up and score when we need them to,” Gooding said. He said Lake Quinault was a very young team and they didn’t get their heads down in a tough loss.

Forks is now 4-0 on the season. The Spartans are scheduled to host Chimacum at 7 p.m. Friday, pending weather conditions.

Girls Basketball Forks 51, Lake Quinault 23

FORKS — The tough-luck Forks girls finally broke through for their first win of the year with a 51-23 victory over Lake Quinault.

Forks (1-3) had three losses this year by a total of 11 points, including one loss in overtime.

“Can’t pout about it,” said coach John DeMatties of Tuesday’s game.

Forks was bolstered by a huge second quarter in which they outscored Lake Quinault 20-0.

The Spartans were led by Rian Peters, who scored 22 points.

“It was another very solid performance by her,” DeMatties said.

Skyler DeMatties also added 16 points. Coach DeMatties said Kaitlin Rowley also played solid defense in the win.

The Spartans are scheduled to host Chimacum at 5:30 p.m. Friday, pending weather conditions.

Sequim JV 25, Crescent 23

JOYCE — The Sequim JV team squeaked out a tight two-point win over the Crescent girls 25-23.

“The game was a nail biter that was full of turnovers. The Crescent girls played some amazing defense; [they] just couldn’t get the buckets to drop,” said coach Kelly Serrianne.

Crescent was led by Hannah Lee, who scored 12 points. The Sequim JV was led by Veronica Preciadio, who scored 12.
