Port Angeles junior post Nizhoni Wheeler and Olympic junior point guard Danielle Monzon have been voted Olympic League 2A girls basketball co-MVPs by the league’s coaches.

Wheeler and Monzon each led their teams to a share of the league championship with 10-2 records.

Wheeler, who also earned the league’s softball MVP as a sophomore in 2015, led the Roughriders in scoring and rebounding this season. She also was among the team leaders in steals and assists.

Port Angeles senior point guard Maddie Boe and Sequim junior post Adrienne Haggerty were each voted to the second team.

North Kitsap’s Penny Gienger is the league’s coach of the year, and North Mason received the team sportsmanship award.

Port Townsend’s Kelsall named Olympic 1A boys MVP

Olympic League 1A boys basketball coaches voted Port Townsend sophomore Detrius Kelsall as the league’s MVP.

Kelsall tops a list of several North Olympic Peninsula players honored by the league, which has only one all-league team.

Chimacum’s James Porter, Christopher Bainbridge and Matthew Koenig were selected for the all-league team. All three are seniors.

Also voted all-league were Port Townsend’s Kaiden Parcher, a sophomore, and Jacob Ralls, a senior.

Chimacum’s Jim Eldgridge was voted coach of the year. Eldridge, who led the Cowboys to their second consecutive league crown, has decided to retire after seven seasons of coaching Chimacum’s boys basketball team.

Klahowya received the team sportsmanship award.

Meek, Nisbet earn Olympic 1A girls honors

Port Townsend sophomore Kaitlyn Meek and Chimacum junior Mechelle Nisbet were voted to the Olympic League 1A girls basketball all-league team.

This is the second consecutive year both players have earned all-league nods.

Coupeville’s Makana Stone was selected as the league’s MVP.

Port Townsend’s Scott B. Wilson was picked as the coach of the year in his first season leading the Redhawks.

Coupeville, the league champion, received the team sportsmanship award.

SeaTac honors Quilcene’s Rogers

Quilcene junior Juan Rogers received honorable mention from the SeaTac League’s coaches.

Rogers averaged 17 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Rangers this season.
