PREP BASKETBALL: Port Townsend girls open with 50-39 win

VASHON — Jewel Johnson had a gem of a game to lead Port Townsend to a 50-39 season-opening win over Vashon Island.

Johnson, an All-Peninsula point guard last season, began her senior campaign with 22 points.

The Redskins dominated the boards in Saturday’s game, with Jayde Richardson grabbing 18 rebounds along with nine points, and Shenoa Snyder pulling down 10 rebounds.

Rilke Rutenbeck added 10 points for Port Townsend.

The Redskins next play at Sequim on Friday.
