RAYMOND — It was a big weekend for the Forks boys and Port Angeles girls basketball teams, which each won a pair of tournament games.

Mason Rapelje and Jericho Julmist led with the Wolves with 13 points each, while Solomon Sheppard got off to a fast start with 11 points, all in the first quarter. In that first quarter, Sheppard had a big blocked shot, a 3-pointer and two slam dunks to get the home crowd excited.

Quincy 61, Port Angeles 54

East Valley 73, Port Angeles 63, OT

YAKIMA — The Port Angeles boys basketball team lost a pair of games at the Yakima SunDome Shootout this weekend, though both games were closer than the final scores indicated.

Against Quincy, coach Kasey Ulin said it was a one-possession game with two or three minutes left.

“We just didn’t make enough plays down the stretch,” Ulin said.

Against East Valley of Yakima, the Roughriders started hot, making seven 3-pointers in the first half, led by three from Blake Sohlberg and two from Hunter Flores.

Ulin said there were six lead changes in the final two minutes of the game and Matthew Miller had two huge baskets for the Riders in the final 1:15. Port Angeles was able to force overtime, but then didn’t play well in the OT and East Valley outscored the Riders by 10 in the final period.

The two losses put the Riders’ record at 3-5, though Ulin pointed out that, with any luck in one-possession games, Port Angeles could be 6-2.

Port Angeles will play East Jefferson at home at 5 p.m. today.
