PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Crescent back on winning track

Port Angeles and East Jefferson win

JOYCE — Crescent boys basketball coach Chris Ferrier was pleased with the balance from his squad in a 60-38 win over a good Clallam Bay team, which dropped to 10-3 on the season.

The Loggers improved to 14-2 on the season after Tuesday’s win, bouncing back from a loss this weekend to red-hot Neah Bay.

Crescent scored at least 14 points in every period as Dom Sprague led the Loggers with 18 points. Henry Bourm scored 17, Mikah Love 11 and Lukas Love 8.

In addition to these four players, “we got great leadership from Conner Bauers who didn’t score a lot but definitely put on his leadership cap,” said coach Chris Ferrier.

“Lukas Love had another big rebounding game. Henry Bourm was fantastic,” Ferrier added. “Dom Sprague hit three big 3s against the Bruin zone in the second quarter to give some breathing room. I just can’t say enough good things about these young men.”

Clallam Bay was led by William Hull with 13 points, while Coletyn Hull had nine and Parker Prater and Dylan Simmons each had six.

Crescent played Chief Kitsap on Wednesday after press deadline. The Loggers have a rematch with the Bruins in Clallam Bay at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Clallam Bay played at Neah Bay (9-3) on Wednesday after press deadline.

Port Angeles 68, Olympic 45

PORT ANGELES — In a physical game, the Port Angeles boys basketball team overcame foul trouble and was able to pull away from an 0-8 Olympic squad to win 68-45.

The game featured 48 foul shots as the Roughriders’ Isaiah Shamp, Kason Albaugh and Parker Nickerson got into foul trouble.

Coach Kasey Ulin said the bench did a great job in the third quarter as Shamp, Albaugh and Nickerson all had to sit.

“They did a phenomenal job getting some separation,” he said. In that third, the reserves helped push a six-point lead to 13.

Donovan Heins led the bench players with six points, all from the free-throw line. Ten different Riders scored as the bench contributed 18 points.

Ulin said that, with all the foul calls, the Riders had trouble getting into an offensive rhythm. In fact, the Trojans were down just 34-28 about halfway through the third quarter. Shamp had a bucket and drew a foul for a three-point play and less than a minute later, Gus Halberg made a bucket on a drive to the basket and was fouled for another three-point play as the Riders were able to open the lead up to 40-30.

A Dallas Dunning basket, Nickerson 3-pointer and Shamp basket opened the lead to 52-36 and the Riders never looked back.

Nickerson led the Riders with 20 points and four steals, including a steal that led to a thunderous dunk. Shamp had 13 and Albaugh 10.

The Riders (7-2, 11-5) have a big game at home at 7 p.m. today against Bainbridge (7-3, 9-5), followed by another huge game Tuesday, hosting first-place North Kitsap.
