PREP FOOTBALL: East Jefferson crushes Bellevue Christian 47-6 to win fourth straight

BELLEVUE — Consolidating players from Chimacum and Port Townsend has certainly worked out great so far for the East Jefferson Rivals football team.

The Rivals had 300 yards rushing, got touchdowns from five different players and won their fourth game in a row while crushing Bellevue Christian 47-6 on Saturday.

Coach Tony Haddenham said the Rivals are like an all-star team.

“We’re really gelling right now,” he said.

The win improves the Rivals’ record to 4-2 after an 0-2 start. The Rivals are not only winning, but dominating, outscoring their opponents 107-19 over the past three games. They are also unbeaten in Nisqually League play as their two defeats were pre-league to a 4-4 2A Port Angeles team and a one-point loss to a 5-1 Granite Falls team.

East Jefferson carried the ball 25 times for a 12.0 per-carry average rushing. Five players for the Rivals had at least 30 yards rushing. Jerome Reaux Jr. led the way, gaining 94 yards on four carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns.

Trevor Wilson had 75 yards on four carries with a touchdown, while Anson Jones had 61 yards rushing with a touchdown. Logan Massie scored two touchdowns and had 30 yards on three carries. Quarterback Cash Holmes had 44 yards rushing on five carries.

Holmes added 64 yards passing on 5-for-9 passing with a TD and no interceptions. Siamau Auseuga had a 13-yard reception for a touchdown. Micajah Shiflett had a catch for 22 yards.

Haddenham gave credit both to offensive coordinator Gabe Montoya and the offensive line.

“We’re spreading the ball. Lots of kids are getting the chance to touch the ball,” he said.

“We couldn’t do this without our offensive line. They’re playing stellar. They’re picking up blitzes and blocking downfield,” Haddenham said.

On defense, Lonnie Kenney had an interception and a 35-yard return, while Josiah Pennington had an interception. Wilson had a fumble recovery.

Haddenham said the defense has been key to the Rivals’ winning streak. They’ve given up just 26 points over their past four games.

“I just have to take my hat off to the defense, they’re playing lights out. They want as few yards gained against them as possible,” Haddenham said.

Despite the winning streak, Haddenham said there are still a lot of things for the Rivals to work on. Against Bellevue Christian, the Rivals had too many penalties, he said.

“We have to play more disciplined football. We can’t have those things in the playoffs,” he said.

East Jefferson (4-2, 3-0 Nisqually League) next plays Life Christian (1-5, 1-2) at Memorial Stadium in Port Townsend at 7 p.m. Friday. Life Christian, despite its record, is a high-scoring team that scored 40 points against Klahowya in a loss this weekend. Life Christian has also scored 67, 29 and 21 in three other games.
