PREP FOOTBALL: Friday night roundup, featuring a high-scoring showdown between Forks and Chimacum

FORKS — Cole Baysinger threw four touchdowns passes and then Forks held on to defeat Chimacum 33-28 on Friday.

The Spartans led 27-12 at the intermission and added a 70-yard punt return for a TD by Garrison Schumack to lead 33-12.

But the Cowboys’ backs were not broken.

Chris Bainbridge returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a Chimacum, cutting the deficit to 33-20.

Trevon Noel added another TD, a 4-yard run, to bring the Cowboys to within 33-28.

Chimacum intercepted the ball and drove into Forks territory in the final moments but couldn’t capitalize.

Austin Whiting was Basyinger’s favorite target, hauling in three of those touchdown passes.

Forks improves to 1-1, while Chimacum drops to 0-2.

Sequim 41, Coupeville 0

SEQUIM — The Wolves improved to 2-0 on the season with another dominating performance.

Freshman quarterback Riley Cowan threw two TDs and senior quarterback Nick Faunce scored on a 11-yard run to give Sequim a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Sequim added three more touchdown runs while holding Coupeville scoreless.

Port Angeles 27, Vashon 18

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders earned head coach Bret Curtis the first win of his career by holding off the Pirates at Civic Field.

Port Angeles (1-1) took a 21-0 lead after one quarter.

Ryan Rodocker connected with Kellen Landry for a short pass that Landry took 20 yards for the first score.

On Vashon’s next drive, Port Angeles’ Cyler McBride picked up a fumble and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.

The Pirates (0-2) fumbled again in their next play and Caleb Joslin recovered it, giving the Riders the ball at the Vashon 27-yard line.

After three runs by Jace Bohman, Jace Lausche plowed the ball in for a 4-yard TD run to give Port Angeles the 21-0 lead before the opening quarter was over.

That was the Riders’ last score until a 5-yard run by Bohman in the third quarter.

COVINGTON — The Bruins went on the road and put up a high-scoring fight against the Mustangs at Kentwood High School.

Despite being short-handed, Clallam Bay (1-1) has proven to be a formidable and explosive force in its two games this season.

Last week the Bruins beat Crescent 34-14.

Neah Bay at Lummi, canceled

BELLINGHAM — The Red Devils were left without a game this week when the Blackhawks had to back out of this 8-man showdown due to a lack of eligible players.
