NEAH BAY — Neah Bay quarterback Josiah Greene has been named the Class 1B state player of the year by The Associated Press.

Greene, a senior quarterback, earned the honor for the second time in three years after leading the Red Devils to their second 1B state title in three years. He also won the award as a sophomore.

Greene completed 59 percent of his passes and racked up 1,720 yards and 28 touchdowns while throwing only two interceptions.

He also rushed for 1,462 yards and 19 touchdowns on 105 carries, an average of 13.9 yards per carry, and scored three defensive touchdowns.

Greene, who also was named to the first-team defense as a defensive end, highlighted 17 North Olympic Peninsula players earning All-State honors.

Sequim senior Brett Wright was a 2A first-team honoree as a kick returner/all-purpose player. Wright returned two kicks for touchdowns for the Wolves.

Port Townsend senior Jacob King, the Nisqually League Division 1 MVP, was selected to the Class 1A first-team defensive back after intercepting six passes and scoring two defensive touchdowns on long returns.

King’s Port Townsend teammates Skyler Coppenrath and Matt Cain made the second-team defense.

The Peninsula placed 13 players in the 1B All-State teams.

Running back Cody Cummins, wide receiver Ezekiel Greene and offensive lineman Bill Hanson, all of Neah Bay, were voted to the first-team offense.

Ezekiel Greene also received a second-team defense nod for his work as a defensive end.

Red Devils junior defensive lineman John Reamer and linebacker Tyler McCaulley, and Quilcene linebacker Josh King were selected to the first-team defense.

Offensive linemen Triston Williams of Quilcene and Joe Maneval of Clallam Bay were named to the second-team defense.

Other second-team honorees from the Peninsula are Quilcene linebacker senior Jason Smith, Clallam Bay senior linebacker Matt Mohr and Neah Bay freshman defensive back Cole Svec.

Neah Bay junior Collin Haupt earned second-team special teams honors after returning three kicks for touchdowns for the state champions.
