QUILCENE — The Rangers continued cruising through the Sea-Tac 1B League, scoring 50 points in the first quarter en route to a 56-16 win over league opponent Seattle Lutheran.
The Rangers’ win was so dominant, they had second stringers in the game in the first quarter.
Olin Reynolds scored touchdowns three different ways — one with a 38-yard run from scrimmage, the other on a 50-yard punt return and the third on a 50-yard interception return.
In all, Reynolds had 180 yards of all-purpose yardage on rushes, kick and punt returns. Bishop Budnek also had two touchdowns, including a 58-yard catch of a Holdem Elkins pass.
Ben Bruner, Isaac Dugdale and Ashton Smead all had touchdown runs. Robert Comstock III had two 2-point coversion catches.
The Rangers haven’t locked up a Sea-Tac 1B title yet, but they’re certainly in the driver’s seat at 3-0 in league. They have a game Thursday against Muckleshoot, a fairly weak team, then a week from Saturday, they play Evergreen Lutheran, which is 2-1 in league, but the Rangers beat them earlier this season 68-0.
Coach Trey Beathard said this game afforded the Rangers an opportunity to give the ball a lot to its second-stringers. Reynolds only ran the ball twice — for 78 yards — but the Rangers were able to amass 218 rushing yards. Smead ran the ball six times for 67 yards.
Beathard also said the offensive line of Comstock, Brennen Filmer and Garon Terry all deserve credit for Quilcene’s success this season, as they are controlling the front line and letting the Rangers’ skill players do their thing. The Rangers have scored 378 points in their seven wins, an average of 54 points a game.
Beathard also pointed out that with four wins last year filling in for Andy Johnston and seven wins this year, Rangers’ quarterback Holdem Elkins is 11-0 as a starter.
Quilcene (3-0, 7-0) plays a six-man game in Clallam Bay today, then they return to Sea-Tac 1B action on Thursday at Muckleshoot (0-3, 0-3).
