PREP FOOTBALL UPDATE: Chimacum wins tiebreaker, advances to districts

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated to because Coupeville’s season is not over. The Wolves will play Vashon later this week.

SEQUIM — Chimacum earned a spot at the Class 1A West Central District playoffs by beating Coupeville 20-8 in a half-game football tiebreaker at Sequim High School on Tuesday.

The Cowboys scored three touchdowns in the second quarter of the half-game.

Matthew Torres broke the scoreless tie with a 4-yard run, then Logan Shaw added a 2-yarder to put Chimacum ahead 14-0 with 3:21 remaining.

Quinn Dowling finished the Cowboys’ scoring with a TD run.

Coupeville scored its only touchdown with four seconds left.

Chimacum will face defending Class 1A state champion Cascade Christian later this week.

Coupeville is eliminated from postseason consideration and will finish its season with a crossover game against Vashon.
