PREP FOOTBALL UPDATE: Port Angeles, Sequim lose league games; other area reports [updated]

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles played North Kitsap closer than any Olympic League team has this season but still fell 26-10 at Civic Field on Friday night.

Kyle North ran for four touchdowns for the Vikings, who will host Olympic next week with the league championship on the line.

Sam Burton scored the Roughriders’ touchdown on a pass from Ryan Rodocker.

Port Angeles next faces Kingston on the road next Friday. With a win, the Roughriders clinch either a postseason berth or put themselves in a three-team mini-playoff with North Mason and Sequim.

BREMERTON — The Wolves played the Trojans tight in the first two quarters, but 27 third-quarter points put the game away quickly.

Sequim suffered yet another detrimental injury when linebacker/running back Chris Whitaker broke his fibula late in the first half and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher before leaving Silverdale Stadium in an ambulance.

The Wolves host Bremerton in the regular season finale next Friday.

If Sequim and Port Angeles win next week, then they will play a three-team mini-playoff with North Mason.

If Sequim beats Bremerton and Port Angeles loses to Kingston, then the Wolves and North Mason would earn the Olympic League’s final two playoff berths.

North Mason finished out its league schedule Friday with a 21-14 win over Bremerton.

Port Townsend 48, Chimacum 0

PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks clinched the Olympic League 1A title with a big win over the rival Cowboys at Memorial Field on Friday night.

Port Townsend will play the Nisqually League’s second place team in the district playoffs. That team is likely to be Charles Wright, which is already coming to Port Townsend next week in the regular season finale.

Neah Bay 78 Crescent 32

NEAH BAY — The top-ranked Red Devils remain undefeated after routing the Loggers on Friday night.

Cameron Buzzell scored receiving, rushing and defensive touchdowns for Neah Bay, Michael McGee ran in two scores and Cole Svec scored a receiving touchdown and returned a kick for another score.

The Red Devils’ 78 points is their highest output of the season.

Neil Peppard threw touchdown passes of 93, 70, 52 and 55 yards for Crescent.

Aberdeen 28, Forks 6

FORKS — Forks avoided being shutout on a late Miguel Morales 1-yard plunge with 1:58 to play in Friday’s Evergreen League loss to the Bobcats.

Aberdeen senior Austin Floch torched the Spartans defense for touchdown runs of 56 yards, 59 yards and 1 yard in the first half.

Floch racked up 18 rushes for 180 yards in the first half but was bottled up after halftime and finished with 28 carries for 185 yards.

The Spartans had their chances in Bobcats territory during the game, especially in the second half, but couldn’t string together enough positive offensive plays to break through on the scoreboard.

It didn’t help that freshman Kylan Touch put his stamp on the game, picking off Forks quarterback Javier Contreras four times.

The Spartans (1-5, 2-6) will play Eatonville at Aberdeen’s Stewart Field next Saturday.
