MOUNT VERNON — The Neah Bay girls won the Tri-District 1B Tournament, beating Mount Rainier Lutheran 62-44 thanks to the second straight monster game from Courtney Swan, who hit four 3-pointers and poured in 25 points for the No. 3-ranked Red Devils.
Laila Greene also had big contributions, scoring 17, while Gine McCaulley scored 10.
Swan had 31 points in the Tri-District 1B semifinal against Mount Vernon Christian, averaging 28.0 points a game over the last two games of the tournament.
Because it is one of the top seeds in the state, Neah Bay (21-2) automatically goes to the state 1B tournament whether it wins or loses its regionals game.
The Red Devils will play No. 6 Selkirk (21-4) from Ione at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rogers High School in Puyallup.
Neah Bay’s regional game is at Rogers High School in Puyallup at 2 p.m. Saturday.
If Neah Beah wins, the girls get a bye at state and do not play again until March 1 against one of four teams — Mount Vernon Christian, Sunnyside Christian, Clallam Bay or Columbia Adventist.
If Neah Bay loses, the Red Devils play the winner of No. 11 Rainier Christian and No. 14 Yakama Tribal at 9 a.m. Feb. 28 at Spokane Arena.
Clallam Bay (15-8), the No. 4 seed out of the Tri-District 1B Tournament, plays in the regionals at 8 p.m. Saturday against Columbia Adventist (13-2) at Rogers High School. This is a loser-out game with the winner going on to state.

WCD 2A girls championship
White River 56, Port Angeles 47
TACOMA — The Port Angeles girls will go to regionals as the No. 2 seed from the West Central District III 2A Tournament, as they were undone by a rough third quarter in a 56-47 loss against White River.
The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak for the Roughriders, who were led by Millie Long with 17.
Port Angeles struggled from the field, shooting only 22 percent on its field goals and that was with Long shooting 7 for 10 from the field. The Riders were also outscored 20-10 in the third quarter.
Coach Michael Poindexter said the Riders had their chances, but failed to convert easy buckets inside.
“Port Angeles had 28 offensive rebounds … that was one of our goals going into the game, and we obviously succeeded. However, we got very few points off those second-chance opportunities,” Poindexter said.
“In one possession in the second quarter, we got five offensive rebounds and were unable to make any of the six shot attempts in the possession. That was a microcosm of the whole game. We had a bundle of inside scoring opportunities that we failed to convert,” he said.
Long hit three 3-pointers and had six steals and five rebounds, playing what Poindexter said was her best game of the year at both ends of the court. Gracie Long and Madison Cooke each had eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Roughriders (20-4 overall) will go to state whether they win or lose at regionals, partly because of their high RPI ranking at No. 4 in the state.
Port Angeles will play Archbishop Murphy (21-2, No. 5 in RPI) at Mount Tahoma High School at 4 p.m. Saturday.
If the Riders win, Port Angeles gets a first-round bye at state, waiting until March 1 to play one of four teams — Wapato, Burlington-Edison, Renton or North Kitsap (whom the Riders have already played four times this season). If they lose, they play at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 28 at the SunDome in Yakima against either East Valley of Yakima or Prosser.

WCD 1A girls championship
Seattle Christian 77, Port Townsend 40
BREMERTON — Coming off what their coach called their best game of the year, the Port Townsend girls couldn’t pull off a second straight upset in the West Central District III 1A championship, falling to a tough 18-2 Seattle Christian team 77-40.
Seattle Christian got up 24-8 in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the game. The Warriors the No. 11 ranked team in the state in RPI.
“Seattle Christian was just too much. They’re loaded with shooters and executed to perfection,” said coach Scott Wilson
Kaitlyn Meek led the Redhawks with 16 points, while Jaz Apker-Montoya scored 14 and Izzy Hammett 10.
The loss bumps the Redhawks in a loser-out bracket at regionals. The Redhawks (10-11) will play Nooksack Valley, an 18-7 team that is ranked No. 10 in the state in RPI, at 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Vernon High School.
If Port Townsend wins, the Redhawks will play at 9 p.m. Feb. 28 at the SunDome in Yakima against either Meridian or Lynden Christian.
Wilson thinks playing tough 2A and 3A schools in preconference and playing a very good team like Seattle Christian in the WCD championship will only help the Redhawks (10-11) prepare for Nooksack.
“We’ve been playing up all year,” he said. “We know it’s a long shot for us, but if he play a great game and great defense, we have a shot.
The Port Townsend girls are the only Jefferson County team still going in the postseason and in fact, interestingly, all four of the playoff teams from the North Peninsula still alive are girls’ teams.
