Spartans tally 24 hits across pair of games

BEAVER — Forks reeled in a pair of Pacific League baseball victories in a doubleheader sweep of Ilwaco, dumping the Fishermen 19-5 in five innings in game one and holding on for a 14-12 victory in the nightcap at Fred Orr Memorial Ballfield on Wednesday.

The Spartans improved to 5-0 on the young season with the sweep.

In game one, Forks quickly spotted Ilwaco a three-run lead but rallied back with a torrent of runs in the home half of the first and second innings.

Urvina picked up the win on the hill, allowing three runs on two hits and four walks in three innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Logan Olson earned the save.

Olson stayed on the mound for the second game and went three innings, allowing one run on a hit and a two walks while striking out four.

Ryan Rancourt’s two-run double in the top of the third added to a pair of first-inning sacrifice flies by Pursely and Urvina, plus a steal of home by Gunner Rogers and an RBI infield single by Dylan Micheau, for a 6-0 Forks lead.

Rogers scored runs by stealing home in each game for Forks.

The Spartans played some small ball to add five more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Kaleb Blanton’s two-run single.

Olson gave way to Rogers after three innings and Ilwaco lit him up for 10 runs, four earned, to rally back and trail 11-10.

Rogers added a sacrifice fly to score the eventual winning run in the top of the sixth.

Dalton Kilmer closed out the game, allowing one run in the final frame.
