POULSBO — A seven-run fourth inning — all runs scored with two outs — sank the Roughriders’ hopes in a matchup of two teams ranked in the top 10 of the WIAA’s Class 2A RPI.
North Kitsap broke through in the top of the fourth with a leadoff walk and a single off Port Angeles starter Colton Romero. Romero was chased after giving up two singles and four walks, giving way to reliever Brayden Martin.
Martin struggled, allowing a three-run single and another RBI single before Mason Grice was able to end the damage.
Kaleb Mullen’s two-out RBI double gave Port Angeles its lone run in the top of the sixth after Luke Flodstrom walked and was subbed out for pinch runner Hunter Stratford.
Stratford moved to second when Ezra Townsend was hit by a pitch and came home on Mullen’s fly ball to left field.
Port Angeles (5-2, 9-3) dropped into third place in the Olympic League with the loss behind undefeated Bainbridge (7-0, 10-3) and North Kitsap (6-1, 7-3).
