BREMERTON — Forks had 10 wrestlers who scored points and two wrestlers place to be the top 1A school at the massive Hammerhead Invitational this weekend.
Nearly 900 wrestlers from 87 boys and girls’ teams from all around the state competed in the event, including Forks, Port Angeles and Port Townsend.
Forks finished 11th overall among the boys’ teams with 124.5 points. Seven out of the 10 schools ahead of Forks were 4A schools, while the other three were 2A schools.
The Spartans’ Luke Dahlgren had the best showing, making it all the way to the championship match at the 285-pound division.
Dahlgren took his opponent, Sven Lukner of 2A Sedro-Woolley, to sudden death, losing in a sudden victory for Lukner. Dahlgren made it to the championship match with three pins and a major decision.
Forks’ Eden Cisneros in the same weight division finished fourth behind four wins.
While not placing, also picking up points for the Spartans were Ariel Morales at 132 pounds with four wins, Luis Perez at 145 pounds with four wins, Keith Thompson at 152 pounds with three wins, Colby Demorest at 195 pounds with three wins and Tristan Pisani at 220 pounds with three wins.
Andres Santos-Delacruz at 120 pounds and Colton Duncan at 132 pounds each won two matches for Forks.
Port Townsend also had a good Hammerhead meet, finishing with 32nd with 77 team points.
The Redhawks had three wrestlers place. Gabe Petrick came in fourth at 160 pounds, Dylan Tracer came in fourth at 182 pounds and Brenna Franklin came in fourth at 170 pounds among the girl wrestlers, winning three out of four matches. Petrick and Tracer each won five matches to place.
Port Angeles came in 38th place with 47 team points. Though no Port Angeles boys placed, several wrestlers picked up points.
The Roughriders’ Daniel Basden won three matches at 132 pounds while Riley Gale won three matches at 170 pounds. Dom Temperio won two matches at 220 pounds, losing one of his matches to Kyle Caldwell of Port Townsend/Chimacum, who also won two matches in the tournament. Adam Borde at 132 pounds won two matches for the Riders.
Sarah Jonlet of Port Angeles won a match and placed sixth at 145 pounds.
South Kitsap, a 4A school, won the event with 241.5 points.
Prep Basketball Darrington 60, Crescent 26
DARRINGTON — The Crescent boys basketball team fell behind 27-5 in the first quarter to Darrington and was never able to recover in a 60-26 road loss.
Eric Emery led the Loggers with 13 points, while Brendan Bergstrom scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Crescent (2-3) next plays Thursday at Lake Quinault.
