PREP ROUNDUP: Neah Bay girls basketball runs away from Spartans in second half

NEAH BAY — The No. 1-ranked Neah Bay girls basketball team got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 63-24 win over Forks.

The Red Devils got up 15-1 in the first quarter in Monday’s game. The Spartans did better in the second quarter, only getting outscored 15-12, but Neah Bay opened up a huge gap with a 14-5 third to go into the fourth quarter up 44-18.

The Red Devils, who improved to 15-1 on the season, were led by Wiinuk Martin and Qwaapeys Greene, who each scored 14 points. Angel Halttunen had 10 points to go with nine rebounds and Cerise Moss scored nine points. Halttunen and Greene each hit a pair of 3-pointers.

For Forks, Bailey Johnson, Pearl Salazar, Chloe Gaydeski and Fynlie Peters all scored four points.

The loss didn’t affect Forks’ league standings and the Spartans (5-1, 8-10) continue to lead the Pacific 2B League. Forks returns to league action at 6 p.m. Thursday at North Beach (1-5, 3-11).

Neah Bay (15-1) plays at Crescent (6-7) at 5:45 p.m. today.

Boys Basketball Annie Wright 89, East Jefferson 18

TACOMA — Annie Wright, the No. 1-ranked 1A boys team in the state, beat East Jefferson 89-18.

Annie Wright, which finished second in the state tournament last year, is 15-1 on the season, with that one loss to a private school from Indiana the Gators played at a tournament in Portland, Ore.

The Rivals (1-2, 5-9) host Bellevue Christian (2-1, 11-4) in Chimacum at 7 p.m. Friday. The East Jefferson (2-2, 9-7) girls play Bellevue Christian (2-0, 13-2) in Chimacum at 5:30 p.m.
