FORKS — The Port Angeles boys took first and Forks girls second at the Forks Lions Club Invitational Track and Field Meet, which featured nine schools, including one visiting all the way from Ketchikan, Alaska.
Port Angeles took first with 108 points. Olympic had 92.5 points for second, while Ketchikan came in third with 88.5. Forks had 61 points for fourth. East Jefferson was sixth with 51 points.
For the girls, Klahowya took first with 104 points. Forks was second with 91, Crescent third with 63 and Neah Bay fourth with 60. East Jefferson, which had its distance runners at a Nike meet, finished tied for fifth with 54 points.
Naomi Sprague of Crescent and Parker Nickerson of Port Angeles were winners in multiple events. Sprague won the girls 100-meter run in a time of 14.17 seconds, just nipping East Jefferson’s Kaylen Pray (14.29). She also won the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 1¾ inches.
Nickerson, meanwhile, won the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 20.06 and won the triple jump with a distance of 38-7, also a personal record.
In the girls’ meet, Neah Bay’s Angel Halttunen won the 200 meters in a time of 27.77, just ahead of Sprague’s 27.98. Port Angeles’ Leia Larson won the 800-meter run with a personal-record time of 2:36.79, while East Jefferson’s Ellise Gardner won the javelin with a throw of 94-4.
Taking first in the high jump was Alexis Dunavant of Crescent with a leap of 4 feet, 5 inches. Forks’ Erika Williams won the long jump with a personal-record leap of 14-9¼.
In the girls’ relay events, East Jefferson (Addy Asbell, Pray, Audrey Matthew and Stephanie Sanchez) won the 4×100 in a time of 55.15. The Forks 4×200 relay team of Miley Blanton, Williams, Emery Damron and Leslie Hernandez-Beltran won in a time of 1:59.57. The Forks 4×400 team (Moli Luong, Julia Raupp, Damron, Hernandez-Beltran) had a solid race, finishing second at 4:48.27.
In the boys’ meet, Forks did well in the field events. Nate Dahlgren of the Spartans won the shot put with a distance of 38-9½, just beating Titus White of Crescent and his distance of 38-4½.
Sloan Tumaua won the discus with a throw of 125-1, just edging teammate Dahlgren’s distance of 124-0. Reid Martin of East Jefferson won the javelin with a throw of 136.
No local boys’ relay teams won, but the Port Angeles 4×400 team of Bryson Graham, Jason Hawes, Dai Quan Tapia and Nickerson had a solid showing, finishing second with a time of 3:50.86, just 0.37 seconds out of first.
PA, Sequim, EJ at South Sound Classic
PUYALLUP — Runners from Sequim, Port Angeles and East Jefferson had solid showings Saturday in the Nike Union Athletics Club South Sound Classic at Sparks Stadium.
This event featured athletes from more than 60 schools in all classifications from around the state.
Sequim’s Mirek Skov had the best local finish, coming in second in the pole vault with a height of 14-0. That is No. 1 among all 2A track and field athletes statewide. Ari Skov finished 12th with a height of 11-0, while Brady Andersen was 15th at 10-6 and Williams Hughes 25th at 9-6.
Two other top finishes were by East Jefferson’s Aliyah Yearian and Sequim’s Andrew Brown.
Yearian came in third in the 3,200 meters in a personal-record time of 10:56.23. That is the No. 2 time among 1A girls statewide. Yearian already holds the statewide No. 1 time in the 1,600.
East Jefferson’s Fiona Fraser finished 14th in the same race with a time of 11:36.61, while teammate Camryn Hines finished 15th in the 800 with a season-record time of 2:29.12.
Brown finished third in the high jump with an outstanding height of 6-0. Brown also finished ninth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.30 and 11th in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.72.
Port Angeles distance specialist Jack Gladfelter finished sixth in the 1,600 with a season-record time of 4:25.10. That is only four seconds off the No. 1 2A time in the state and good for fifth in the state among 2A runners.
Baseball
Port Angeles 3, Olympic 0
BREMERTON — The Port Angeles boys baseball team pitched its sixth shutout of the season Saturday, with the victim this time Olympic in a 3-0 Roughriders victory.
Kole Acker fired his second straight shutout, going six innings and allowing just two hits. He struck out three. Colton Romero pitched the final inning, collecting a strikeout and not allowing any hits.
Acker has gone 10 straight innings without allowing a run over his past two games.
The Roughriders managed just four hits themselves as Olympic pitcher Lathan Haywood was nearly able to match Acker pitch-for-pitch.
Alex Angevine, Romero and Jordan Shumway all had singles for Port Angeles. Elijah Flodstrom had a clutch two-run single in the second inning that proved to be all the scoring the Riders would need.
In 13 games this year, the Riders have allowed just 33 runs.
Port Angeles (6-2, 9-3-1) next plays at home at Civic Field at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday against North Mason (1-6, 1-7).

Sequim 22, East Jefferson 12
SEQUIM — The Sequim Wolves won a wild high-scoring affair as the Wolves had an 11-run second inning and a six-run sixth to beat East Jefferson 22-12.
The Wolves collected 17 hits. The high score wasn’t completely the fault of the pitchers as both teams struggled in the field and committed a combined 16 errors. Only nine of the 34 runs were earned.
Brayden White, Ayden Holland and Ethan Staples all had big days for the Wolves. White went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, an RBI and a walk. Holland was 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Staples hit a double, walked twice, scored two runs and drove in four.
Ricky Jennings, Hunter Tennell and Bryant Laboy all had two hits and two RBIs for the Wolves. Tennell and Laboy each scored two runs. Lincoln Bear was 2-for-5 and scored four runs.
On the mound, the Wolves’ pitchers didn’t do badly, combining for 11 strikeouts. Adrian Aragon went two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Devyn Dearinger pitched an inning, striking out three, while Jennings went three innings, struck out three and allowed four earned runs.
For East Jefferson, Sawyer Ziel had a hit, two runs scored and four RBIs. Cash Holmes went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Brody Moore was 1-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Rylan Dunn had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound, Dunn allowed six hits but just three earned runs in 1⅓ innings. Evan Kraft got touched for nine hits and six earned runs in 1⅔ while Ben Lance pitched 2⅓ and allowed two hits and no earned runs.
Sequim (5-7) next hosts Bremerton at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday while East Jefferson (1-8) hosts Seattle Christian at 4 p.m. today in Chimacum.
