PREP ROUNDUP: Pair of Sequim runners fifth at huge Oregon x-country meet

ASTORIA, Ore. — Running in a massive meet featuring more than 1,300 Oregon and Washington harriers at the Three Course Cross-Country Challenge at Camp Rilea, Ore., Sequim’s Murray Bingham and Riley Pyeatt both had impressive showings, finishing fifth in their races.

Bingham ran in the 3,000-meter difficult course Saturday, coming in fifth place with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds. Only 12 runners out of 276 broke 20 minutes.

Pyeatt, just a freshman, came in fifth out of 218 runners in the girls 5,000-meter moderate course with a time of 22:50.

Port Angeles at Bellevue Invite

BELLEVUE — Port Angeles’ Lauren Larson and Kynzie DeLeon both finished in the top 10 of their flight in the Bellevue Cross Country Invitational.

Running in the No. 3 and 4 girls flight Saturday, Larson finished fourth with a time of 19:20.0, just 22 seconds off the winning time. DeLeon finished eighth with a time of 19:54.2.

The boys and girls’ races were broken up into four separate flights based based on runners’ ranks and best times — No. 1 & 2, No. 3 & 4, No. 5 & 6: No. 7 & 8.

Kaylee Helgeson, 18th, No. 7 & 8 girls flight, 21:58.2; Lucas Gavin, 23rd, No. 7 & 8 flight, 18:28.4; AJ Fischer, 24th, No. 7 & 8 flight, 18:33.4; Ella Holland, 25th, No. 5 & 6 girls flight, 21:54.4; Thomas Shaw, 27th, No. 3 & 4 boys flight, 17:44.9; Jenna McGoff, 30th, No. 5 & 6 flight, 22:15.4; Gabriel Long, 34th, No. 3 & 4, 18:15.2; Adam Borde, 38th, No. 5 & 6 flight, 18:25.5.

Forks at King’s Cross Invite

SHORELINE — Forks’ Wesley Camacho and Luis Perez came in second and third respectively in the junior varsity race at the King’s Cross Invitational Cross Country meet.

The two sophomores helped Forks finish third out of eight schools at the meet with 77 points. Forks’ Kasson Steffen also finished 19th with a time of 20:41 and Hector Garcia Dominguez finished 79th with a time of 28:52.

For the girls, Forks’ Madalyn Archibald finished 14th with a time of 22:16 in the girls varsity race. Karen Ensastequi was 29th (23:48), Melisa Galindo 32nd (24:08) and Savannah Meyer 53rd (28:34).

Volleyball Clallam Bay 3, Sequim JV 1

CLALLAM BAY— Clallam Bay beat the Sequim JV 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23).

According to coach Amanda Maines, Kaitlynn Tyree had a great match serving, while libero Nora Parker got in some great digs on the back line.

She also said that both Miriam Wonderly senior and Hannah Olson hit well.
