PREP ROUNDUP: Port Angeles, Forks baseball sweep

Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks softball all win

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles baseball team played itself into the 2A bi-district tournament with a much-needed doubleheader sweep, 6-0 and 13-2, over North Mason on Tuesday.

With the victories, the Roughriders finish the season 8-6 in the Olympic League and 9-8 overall. It appears the Riders will end up a No. 3 seed out of the Olympic, said coach Casey Dietz.

“We’re happy to be in. We’re hoping to make some noise,” Dietz said.

The Riders begin 2A bi-district play on Tuesday. There will be a seeding meeting on Tuesday and the Riders should find out then where they play and against whom. It is possible Port Angeles will get to host at least one game.

In the 6-0 win, Elijah Flodstrom pitched the shutout. In the 13-2 win, Colton Romero started and pitched an excellent game, with Blake Sohlberg coming in to close out the contest.

The Riders pounded out 26 hits in the sweep.

In addition to his great pitching performance, Flodstrom went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Beckett Jarnagin was 2-for-4 and Payton Cagey was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ezra Townsend had a hit, two walks and two RBIs and James Burkhardt was 2-for-3.
