Bainbridge 127, Port Angeles 43

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys swim team this weekend hosted Bainbridge, one of the top 3A teams in the state, falling 127-43, but holding its own against the powerful Spartans in several races.

The Roughriders picked up a first-place finish, two seconds, and three third-place finishes.

“Our last meet was over three weeks ago and the boys were fired up to compete again,” said head coach Sally Cole. “We used Bainbridge’s strength to our advantage and came away with four new district-qualifying times, and 10 new personal bests. I’m extremely proud of how the boys swam.”

Colby Ellefson earned top points for the Riders. He claimed first place in the 500 freestyle, finishing a whopping 26 seconds ahead of the nearest Spartan and touching in 3½ seconds ahead of his season-best time. He also nabbed a second in the 200 freestyle.

Davis Hueter snatched third in the 500 freestyle, shattering his previous time by 16 seconds and earning his first district- qualifying time of the season. Captain Max Baeder touched in shortly after Hueter, annihilating his best time by 21 seconds.

In the 200 individual medley, seniors Will Roening and Hueter acquired new personal records, both improving their times by 3½ seconds.

Alex Che finished third in the 50 freestyle. Landon Close touched in just .08 seconds later, collecting both a personal best and a district-qualifying time.

Che then picked up a second place in the 100 freestyle, securing a district time in the process. In the same event, Keane McClain and Jacob Miller swam their fastest. McClain improved his time by two seconds while teammate Miller crushed his time by eight seconds.

Making his debut in the 100 backstroke this season, sophomore Finn Thompson not only collected a third-place finish, he also swam 1½ seconds faster than last year and nabbed another district-qualifying time. In the same event, freshman Jensen Wolfe also set a personal record, beating his time by six seconds.

All three Port Angeles Relay Teams finished third with Ellefson and Che acquiring personal-best splits.

Port Angeles will host Olympic on Jan. 18 at the Shore Aquatic Center.
