Friday’s game

Bainbridge 6, Port Angeles 0

BAINBRIDGE — The Bainbridge soccer team “put on a passing clinic,” according to Port Angeles head coach Chris Saari, scoring five goals in the first half en route to a 6-0 win for the Spartans.

Saari said the game was played in cold, wind and rain with rain becoming sideways by the end of the first half. Port Angeles played missing four starters on the Friday before spring break.

Port Angeles was able to keep the Spartans to just one goal in the second half.

Marcus Hogan played goalkeeper in the first half and then Liam McBride came in and played in goal in the second half for the Riders.

“Liam came up with a few big saves to keep the score respectable in the second half for PA,” Saari said.

Freshman Grant Butterworth started at centerback for Port Angeles and Saari said he did a good job winning the ball and distributing it.

“Hannes Spieker worked hard defensively in the midfield … to limit the attack of the Spartans in the second half,” Saari said. “Caleb Lagrange fought hard all game and tried to give Port Angeles a spark with his forward runs down the wing from outside back position in the second half.”

Saari named Grant Butterworth and McBride as his defensive players of the match and Spieker and Lagrange as his transition players of the match.

The Riders (3-3-1 PK loss, 10 points, 4-3 overall) take a week off and return to action against Bremerton on April 11.
