Port Angeles 6, North Kitsap 1

POULSBO — The Riders (9-0) swept the singles contests and took three of four doubles matches highlighted by a third-set tiebreaker win by No. 4 doubles duo Angelina Sprague and Brielle Keywood.

Sprague and Keywood rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory.

Boys Soccer

Forks 8, Hoquiam 1

HOQUIAM — The Spartans ended any shot of a Grizzlies’ upset early, scoring twice in the first five minutes to seal the Class 2B/1A Evergreen League boys soccer crown for the second season in a row.

Forks (8-0) also won the league title as a 1A school in 2019 and advanced to the state tournament.

The Spartans host Raymond-South Bend tonight at 6 p.m. in a senior night contest to close out the regular season and will be the No. 1 Pacific League seed to the Class 2B/1A Southwest District Tournament.

That likely includes a home game on Tuesday against a to-be-determined team.

Kingston 3, Sequim 1

KINGSTON — The Wolves’ 25-game Olympic League winning streak was snapped thanks to an inspired performance from the Buccaneers on their senior night.

“Kingston played very well. They came out defensive-minded from the onset and were well-organized, and we couldn’t crack them,” Sequim coach Ken Garling said.

The Wolves did go up 1-0 on a goal by defender Brandon Wagner in about the 23rd minute.

“That was a nice, low-driven ball by Brandon that the goalkeeper couldn’t handle,” Garling said.

Kingston answered with three goals before halftime, and the Wolves couldn’t find the net in the second half.

“We started doing a little better job in the second half, but that defense was locked in. They wanted to control the tempo, put five or six behind the ball and counter when they had the chance, and they did a good job of that,” Garling said.

Garling said Aiden Henninger was all over the place for Sequim.

“He had a good match controlling the middle and stopping a lot of their counterattacks,” Garling said.

Despite the defeat, Sequim (9-1) is the Olympic League North Division champs. The Wolves will wrap the regular season at North Kitsap on Saturday and then visit South Division champ Bainbridge in a crossover match to decide the league title Wednesday.

Softball

Port Angeles 12, Bainbridge 2

BAINBRIDGE — The Riders remained unbeaten thanks to some timely extra-base hits by Peyton Rudd and Zoe Smithson and a good outing from sophomore pitcher Cheyenne Zimmer.

“Cheyenne Zimmer pitched a solid game, and Peyton Rudd’s three-run homer along with Zoe Smithson’s three-run triple blew the game wide open,” coach Randy Steinman said.

Smithson added two doubles while Ava Brenkman went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Zimmer went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Emi Halberg added two hits, and Natalie Robinson and Taylor Worthington also had hits for Port Angeles (9-0).
