PREP ROUNDUP: Sequim spikers end season on winning note; PA track holds jamboree

SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team capped off a successful 10-3 season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) win this weekend over 3A Central Kitsap.

This was a Central Kitsap team that had earlier in the week defeated 2A power North Kitsap. North Kitsap is the champion of the Olympic League North Division.

“They played the absolute best game all season,” said coach Jennie Webber Heilman. “It was a good way to end the season.

“Our defense that game was amazing. Central Kitsap told us after the game, ‘You guys were getting balls we didn’t think you could get,’ ” Webber Heilman said.

The Wolves served 93 percent on the day with Amanda Weller leading the way, serving 27 for 29 (93.1 percent) with eight aces. The Wolves tallied 13 aces total.

“Amanda Weller was on fire serving,” Webber Heilman said. Weller added six kills and seven digs.

Allie Gale, meanwhile, was 23 for 24 on her serves with four aces. Gale added 17 digs.

Setter Kalli Wiker had 29 assists and 12 digs and served 13 for 14. Jayla Julmist had eight kills and two stuff blocks. McKenna Hastings served 10 for 10 with seven digs

Jordan Hegtvedt had 15 digs, and sophomore Kendall Hastings led the power game with 12 kills and seven blocks.

“That’s one I get for a couple more years,” Webber Heilman said. It was the final match for seniors Weller, Hastings, Julmist, Jessica Asselin and Wiker. In fact, Wiker, a defending state champion in tennis, immediately jumps into the spring sports season with her first tennis match Wednesday.
