PREP SOFTBALL: Port Angeles catcher Lunt voted Olympic League MVP; Fork’s Lausche is all-league

Port Angeles’ Lauren Lunt was voted Olympic League 2A softball MVP by the league’s coaches.

Lunt, a junior who spent most of her time at catcher for the league champion Roughriders, highlights the Sequim and Port Angeles players who litter the All-Olympic 2A teams.

Port Angeles junior pitcher Nizhoni Wheeler and Sequim senior McKenzie Bentz were chosen as the first-team pitchers.

This is the third all-league selection for Bentz and the second for Wheeler, who was the league MVP in 2015.

A pair of Port Angeles sophomores, second baseman Natalie Steinman and outfielder Sierra Robinson, also were first-team honorees.

Wolves senior outfielder Allysen Montelius and junior shortstop Jordan Bentz and senior catcher Emily Copeland also were picked for the first team.

Steinman and Montelius are receiving their second first-team honors.

The Riders’ No. 2 pitcher, senior Hope Wegener, was voted to the second team, as were teammates Kylee Reid, a junior infielder, and Nikki Price, a junior outfielder.

Sequim junior Chloie Sparks made the second team as an infielder.

Port Angeles’ Randy Steinman was voted coach of the year.

“The coach of the year should go to my assistant coaches Dirk Gouge, Duffy Fors and Chuck Perizzo,” Randy Steinman said.

“We wouldn’t be as successful with out their help. None of these coaches have daughters on the team and they volunteer all their time to these ladies. They make my job easy.”

North Mason received the team sportsmanship award.

Lausche makes Evergreen first team

Evergreen League coaches voted Forks sophomore infielder Julia Lausche to the all-league first team.

The Spartans also had three second-teamers: senior catcher Sarah Adams, junior infielder Skyler DeMatties and sophomore outfielder Bailey Queen.

Freshman Britany Dean and sophomore Teagan Counsell received honorable mention for Forks.

Rochester’s Jaelin Lancaster was picked as the offensive MVP, and Hoquiam’s Kylie Steward and Rochester’s Joni Lancaster share the offensive MVP award.
