ABERDEEN — If the Clallam Bay girls basketball team began its game against Wishkah Valley shorthanded, it finished the contest playing without a full set of fingers.
Despite only having three players on the court at the end, the Bruins held off the Loggers for a 34-28 win Saturday.
“We started out with six players and ended the game with three left on the court,” Clallam Bay coach Kathleen Winter said.
“With about five minutes left in the fourth quarter we got down to four, and then a little under two minutes we got down to three because of fouls.”
Jeddie Herndon, Zeria Signor and Jennica Maines were the last three Bruins on the court after Kyla Wilson fouled out.
Wishkah Valley also had two players foul out, but the Loggers could afford it with a roster of 11 players.
Fortunately for the Bruins, they had a big enough lead built up, beginning with a first quarter in which they outscored the Loggers 14-0.
“At the end of the game, the score felt closer than it was because we were in such bad foul trouble and they were coming back,” Winter said.
“I was very pleased of the poise that the remaining players had towards the end of the game, protecting the basketball and making good decisions.”
Herndon led all scorers with 10 points.
“Jeddie Herndon had a standout game for us tonight both offensively and defensively,” Winter said.
“She had seven steals and put heavy pressure on their ball handlers to really take Wishkah out of their game.”
Inga Erickson and Zeria Signor scored eight points each for the Bruins.
Ally Ancich led the Loggers with nine points.
Clallam Bay (3-2) is off until Monday, Jan. 6, when it travels to face the Port Angeles C team.

ELMA — The Red Devils were led by Cierra Moss’ 32 points to earn a road win over the Owls.
Faye Chartraw contributed 17 and Haily Greene scored 12 for Neah Bay, which moved to 3-1 on the season.
Boys Basketball

ELMA — The Red Devils’ defense clamped down on the Owls’ offense for four quarters.
Neah Bay held Mary M. Knight to two points in the first quarter, five in the second, three in the third and eight points in the final period.
The Red Devils were led offensively by 12 points from Abraham Venske, while Ryan Moss, Christopher Martinez and Ezekiel Greene added 10 apiece.
Neah Bay (2-1) returns to action Friday when it faces La Conner at the Crush in the Slush Tournament at Port Townsend High School. If they Red Devils win, they will play the winner between Port Townsend and Chimacum.
Wrestling
Roughriders take second at Squalicum meet
BELLINGHAM — The Roughriders had 13 of 15 wrestlers place in the top six of their brackets to lead the Port Angeles to a second place finish behind only perennial 4A power Snohomish at the Graham Morin Memorial tournament at Squalicum High School.
The Riders had four champions and seven finalists.
Cody Anderson (106 pounds), Brady Anderson (120), Ozzy Swagerty (126) and Roberto Coronel (285) were Port Angeles’ champions.
Ben Basden (106 pounds), Tyler Gale (113 pounds) and Kyle La Fritz (220 pounds) all finished second.
Other players for the Riders: Gavin Crain, fourth in the 132-pound division; Ricky Crawford, third (145 pounds); Andrew Harrelson, third (152 pounds); Brandyn Fouts, sixth (160 pounds); Blake Mann, fifth (170); and Matt Robbins, fifth (195).
Port Angeles coach Erik Gonzalez selected junior Brady Anderson as the team’s wrestler of the week.
“Brady had an outstanding week, winning two tough matches in the final seconds — one in the dual meet against North Mason on Thursday and the other in the finals at the Squalicum tournament,” Gonzalez said.
The Riders next host The Battle for the Axe on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Redskins have six place at Montesano
MONTESANO — Port Townsend had six placers at the Montesano tournament Saturday.
Shae Shoop was the Redskins’ highest finisher with a second-place showing in the 113-pound class. Teammate Peter Glitsch was fourth in the 113-pound class.
Kade Wilford (138 pounds), Forrest Piatt (170 pounds) and Trevor Garrett (182 pounds) each finished third in their respective classes.
Jackson Schott placed fourth in the 126-pound division.
Port Townsend coach Steven Grimm said his team “wrestled tough as always, placing six out of 11 wrestlers. All of the third-place finishers were so close to making the finals — one or two points in the second half and [they] would have been wrestling for gold.”
Forks’ Tristen Williams takes first
DEMING — Forks wrestlers headed north over the weekend to compete at events at Mount Baker and Lynden.
The Forks girls wrestled at the Lady Lions Invite in Lynden.
From that meet came the Spartans’ only champion of the weekend, as Tristen Williams won the 106-pound division.
Other girls placing the tournament, which featured more than 160 girls, were Brooke Peterson and Natasha Armenta who tied for third at 155 pounds.
The Forks boys followed up their second-place finish at the 12-team La Center Invitational last weekend with a third-place finish at the Mount Baker Invite.
Traditional 2A power Sedro-Woolley won the tournament with 207 points, 3A Glacier Peak was second with 151.5 points, followed by Forks with 150.5.
The Spartans had several placers and several opportunities for a champion, but no wrestler placed higher than second.
Miguel Morales placed second in the 285-pound heavyweight division, which was arguably the toughest of the tournament according to Forks coach Bob Wheeler.
Morales’ teammates Joel Ward and Luke Loveless also did well in the heavyweight class, taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sebastian Morales was second in the 113-pound class, losing 7-5 in the finals match, while fellow Spartan and 113-pounder Alan Ensastegui was fourth.
Ricky Barragan (138 pounds) and Javier Contreras (145 pounds) also placed second for Forks.
Nanito Sanchez (132 pounds) was third, Jack Dahlgren (152) was fifth and Nate Gimlin (182) placed fifth.

Gymnastics
Roughriders finish fourth at meet
LACEY — Rozzi Piper had a pair of top-10 finishes for Port Angeles in a four-team meet at Black Hills Gymnastics.
Piper placed seventh on the floor and ninth on the beam in Saturday’s meet.
Maya Wharton had the Roughriders’ highest individual finish with a sixth-place showing on the bars with a score of 6.4. Teammate Lexi Hefton took ninth on the bars with a 6.1.
Port Angeles next competes Saturday, Jan. 11, at Sehome High School.
