HOQUIAM — Forks dominated a snow-compressed Evergreen 1A League sub-regional tournament, qualifying 19 grapplers and two alternates for the regional tournament at Blaine this weekend.
As a team, Forks put up 343 points, besting second-place Elma (238.5) by 104.5 points.
“We have never taken that many to the regional tournament before,” Forks coach Bob Wheeler said.
“It should give us a good chance to win in Blaine also.”
Due to snow in southwest Washington, two schools were forced to cancel their trips, and the tournament itself was shortened from two days to about seven hours at Hoquiam Square Garden on Friday.
“It was a hectic day,” Wheeler said.
Wrestlers who placed in the top-four advanced, while fifth-place finishers are the alternates.
First-place finishers for the Spartans were: Sebastian Morales at 106 pounds, Ricky Barragan at 138, and Miguel Moroloes at 285.
Finishing second for Forks: Alvaro Ortiz at 113, Nanito Sanchez at 132, Javier Contreras at 145, Nate Gimlin at 170, Gavin Castaneda at 182 and Jake Claussen at 285.
Third-place finishers for the Spartans: Alan Ensastegui at 113, Garrison Schumack at 120, Sebastian Barragan at 126, Abisai Garcia at 138, Tony Lua at 152, Jack Dahlgren at 160 and Luke Loveless at 220.
Gavin Palmer (132) and Joel Ward (220) finished fourth.
Alternates are Francisco Bocanegra at 126 and Saul Avila at 120.

Neah Bay 82, Clallam Bay 39
NEAH BAY — The Red Devils continued tuning up for postseason play with a big win over the rival Bruins on senior night.
Neah Bay put up scores of 30-10 in the first and third quarters to roll past the five-man Clallam Bay team.
Red Devils senior Grayson Porter provided Friday’s highlight with a second-quarter slam dunk. He finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Abraham Venske led all scorers with 15 points and handed out five assists, while Ryan Moss had 12 points and seven assists for Neah Bay.
Sam Signor had 13 points for Clallam Bay and Kelly Gregory added 12.
The Red Devils (6-0, 13-1) will host a Tri-District playoff game at Port Angeles High School on Tuesday, Feb. 18, against the winner of a play-in game between the Sea-King District’s No. 5 and the Northwest District No. 2
Clallam Bay will play in a loser-out, Tri-District play-in game at the Northwest District’s No. 3 seed on Saturday.

CHIMACUM — The Pirates, ranked fifth in Class 1A, roughed up the host Cowboys on Friday night.
Chimacum posts Brendon Naylor and Orion Weller each scored 14 to lead the Cowboys.
Jessie Norton had 24 to lead all scorers for Vashon.
The Cowboys visit Seattle Christian on Tuesday and wrap the season at Cedar Park Christian on Friday.

AUBURN — Despite the road loss, Quilcene clinched a play-in playoff berth in the 1B Sea-Tac League tournament Thursday.
“We had a tough time shooting, a tough time getting into our offense and we had difficulty adjusting to what they were doing on defense,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said.
“They were playing man [defense], and we’d run a mat set on offense and they’d deny a pass to place where the ball was supposed to go and we didn’t do a good job adjusting to that.”
Jacob Pleines scored 12 to lead Quilcene (9-10), while J.J. Smith and Triston Williams each had seven for the Rangers.
Luis Esparaza scored 18 to lead the Kings to the win.
Quilcene will visit Christian Faith on Tuesday and then face them again Thursday in a winner-to-Tri-District contest at the league tournament at Evergreen Lutheran in Des Moines.

CHIMACUM — The Cowboys were unable to sweep the season series with the Pirates, falling on senior night in a mistake-filled game.
“It was a disappointing loss, especially on senior night,” Chimacum coach Trevor Huntingford said.
“Turnovers were the killer.”
Huntingford said the Cowboys lost a lot of practice time this week, due mostly to illness and the Seattle Seahawks’ championship parade, which left them unprepared.
“It was a self-induced loss,” Huntingford said.
Anya Quig led all scorers, matching Chimacum’s total with 21 points. She scored 10 of her points in the final quarter to blow a somewhat close game wide open.
Lauren Thacker and Madeline Nordberg led the Cowboys with six points each, and Mechelle Nisbet contributed five.

QUILCENE — The Rangers fell on the road to the league-leading Kings on Friday.
Megan Weller had 19 points and three steals, while Sammy Rae added eight points and eight rebounds for the Rangers.
Olivia Ho led all scorers with 34 for the Kings.
“Muckleshoot seemed to be able to hit almost everything they put up at the basket,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said.
“[We] just couldn’t respond to their level of intensity. [Our] defense wasn’t up to standard and the [we] couldn’t contain the perimeter shooting of the Kings.
Quilcene is still alive for the 1B Sea-Tac League’s sixth seed to the playoffs, but they must win what amounts to a loser-out game at Christian Faith on Tuesday.
The Rangers and Eagles are tied for sixth in the league standings, and Christian Faith has already beaten Quilcene by two points earlier this year.
Whichever team wins Tuesday will play against Northwest Yeshiva at the league tournament Thursday at Evergreen Lutheran in Des Moines.
