PORT ANGELES — Ava-Avnne Sheahan connected on a two-run home run and Heidi Leitz went the distance in the circle as Port Angeles remained unbeaten in Olympic League softball action Thursday at Dry Creek Elementary School.
Sheahan’s fifth-inning blast broke open a 1-1 ballgame with the Buccaneers (3-2, 6-2), a much-improved team this season that is ranked No. 15 in the Class 2A RPI.
The No. 1 Roughriders added an insurance run in the sixth when Natalie Robinson doubled with one out and Kennedy Rognlien singled to center.
Leitz gave up a single to open Kingston’s final at-bats but then retired the side by inducing a pair of fly outs and racking up a strikeout.
She allowed one unearned run while scattering seven hits across seven innings pitched. She tossed nine strikeouts with just one walk.
Port Angeles (6-0, 10-1) struck first in the bottom of the second when Abby Kimball singled and pinch runner Cydne Moore stole second base and came home when Lexie Smith reached on an error at shortstop.
The Riders host rival Sequim on Tuesday.
Olympic 11, Sequim 3
BREMERTON — A seven-run third inning was too much for the Wolves to overcome on the road Thursday.
Kylie Winter singled and later scored on a Mia Kirner RBI single to open the contest for Sequim.
Taylee Rome lined a two-run home run to center field in the top of the sixth, but Sequim could come no closer.

BREMERTON — Port Angeles and Forks athletes prepped for today’s Forks Lions Club meet with a meet at Olympic on Thursday.
Led by Parker Nickerson’s four event victories, the Roughrider boys won the meet with 91 points, ahead of Olympic (68) and Forks (19).
Nickerson claimed event wins in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles in 16.67 seconds and 43.15 seconds, respectively, and he won the triple jump (40 feet, 2 inches) and the long jump (20-7¾).
Jason Hawes broke the 12-second mark to win the 100-meter dash in 11.92 and was a member of the Riders’ winning 4×100 relay (46.3) along with Kaiden Point, Dylan Williams and Trevor Martin.
Jude Wallace was tops in the pole vault (10-6) and Dallas Dunning cleared 5-8 in the high jump to lift Port Angeles.
Nate Dahlgren led Forks with event victories in the discus (121-8) and shot put (40-2).
Sophomore Noah Foster added a win in the 400 for the Spartan boys with a personal-record time of 55.16.
On the girls side, Teanna Clark won three events for Port Angeles, claiming the triple jump (29-1½), the high jump (4-2) and setting a personal record in the javelin (99-3).
Olympic won the girls meet with 83 points, while the Riders had 73 and Forks 25.
Faerin Tait won the 100 hurdles in 17.8 and the 400 in 1:06.52 for Port Angeles.
Miriam Cobb ran to victory in the 800 (2:55.36) and Lillian Sutherland set a personal record of 1:02.84 to win the 300 hurdles for the Riders.
Katelynn Wallerstedt set a personal record of 72-11 to win the discus for Forks.
Peyton Johnson set two personal records while picking up second in the javelin (98-1) and fourth in the long jump (13-4½) for the Spartans. She also finished second in the 100 hurdles.
Boys Golf Port Angeles 157, Sequim 179
SEQUIM — Riders senior Nate Anderson shot a 1-under-par 35, including two birdies on the front nine at The Cedars at Dungeness, to earn match medalist honors in a win over the rival Wolves on Thursday.
Both teams shot their lowest rounds of the season in the match.
“Our guys played it cool and all six of our guys played well and shot good scores,” Port Angeles coach Bob Anderson said. [The team ended up] scoring our best round in my time coaching these guys. Kudos to Sequim as well for having their best total of the year.”
Sequim’s Adrian Aragon finished second overall, shooting a 38 that also saw him make two birdies.
Incorrect: Reported as Max Gagnon scoring 41. (He actually scored 43 and his score was not used in the team match score).
Port Angeles’ Reid Schmidt posted a 39, Sky Gelder shot a 41, Cale Wentz a 42 and Max Gagnon carded a 43 to round out the Riders’ scores.
Lars Wiker had a 41 for the Wolves, while Cody Dunscomb shot 47 and Joey Kang added a 53.
Girls Golf Sequim 184, Port Angeles 201
SEQUIM — Each team played its best golf of the season in a nine-hole match at The Cedars at Dungeness.
The Wolves’ Emily Post fired a round of 42 to earn match medalist honors. Sequim’s Taryn Johnson posted a 46, as did teammate Kendra Dodson. Ava Johnson rounded out the Wolves scorers with a 50.
Port Angeles was led by Malena Marquez’s 49. Lauryn Chapman and Claire Osterberg each recorded 50s, and Mia Neff had a 52.
“We played well, but Sequim just flat beat us up,” Riders coach Mike DuPuis said. “They were not going to be denied. All we can do is tip our hat to Wolves coach Tim [Lusk] and his girls.”
