PREP SPORTS: Port Angeles boys soccer rallies to beat Olympic; other area reports

BREMERTON — The Port Angeles boys soccer team earned a road win against Olympic with a second-half scoring onslaught at Silverdale Stadium.

The Trojans scored first with a goal in the 25th minute by Tony Raventos-Vasquez that sent the Roughriders into halftime facing a deficit.

In the second half, Port Angeles scored three goals in 15 minutes to build a fairly comfortable lead.

In the 46th minute, the Riders linked several nice one-touch passing combinations to break behind Olympic’s back line.

Port Angeles’ Jackson May made a nice cross to Vincent Ioffrida, who scored his second goal of the season that evened the game at 1-1.

May worked his way past the defense again and was fouled in the penalty box. The freshman forward scored on the ensuing penalty kick to give the Riders a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute.

Port Angeles poured it on 10 minutes later with a goal by Tim Schneider off a nice pass from midfielder Wei-Yan Fu, making it 3-1.

Olympic (0-3) cut into the Riders’ lead with a penalty kick by Maxx Plum in the 72nd minute.

Port Angeles then survived late pressure by the Trojans to earn three valuable Olympic League points and improve to 3-1 on the season.

Roughriders coach Chris Saari named May the team’s offensive player of the match. Ryan Beck was the defensive player of the match and Ioffrida, Schneider and Fu shared transition player of the match honors.

The JV game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Port Angeles has a tough week ahead with a home game against league-leading North Kitsap (3-0) on Tuesday at Civic Field and a road contest against second-place Kingston (3-1) on Thursday.
