SILVERDALE — The Port Angeles boys tennis team started the fall season strong with a 6-1 victory against Class 4A Central Kitsap.
Roughriders players won two of three singles matches and all four doubles contests in the nonleague match.
Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said that singles player Ben Basden earned the team’s match ball for his gritty, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 victory.
“It was a hard-fought third set which could have gone either way, but he prevailed through sheer will and focus,” Stockton said of Basden.
The Roughriders (1-0) face North Kitsap at 4 p.m. today.

Port Angeles went 12-9 last season, advancing to the West Central District playoffs.
