FIFE — Ozzy Swagerty, Tyler Gale and Matt Robbins led Port Angeles to a third-place finish at the Larry Brown Invitational at Fife High School.
The Roughriders trio were champions in their respective weigh classes, and 11 of 14 Port Angeles wrestlers placed in the top five of their brackets.
Fife won Saturday’s meet with 229.5 points, followed by Sunnyside with 209.5 and The Roughriders with 182.5 points.
Swagerty finished off the 126-pound bracket by defeating defending 3A state champion Homer Romero of Sunnyside 1-0.
That capped off a solid week by Swagerty, who went up a weight division to defeat North Kitsap’s Nikita Weston, who was a state participant last year.
Gale pinned Renton’s Tony Pham in 2 minutes to claim the 113-pound class.
Robbins pinned all three of his opponents en route to the 195-pound title.
Roberto Coronel was the runner-up in the heavyweight division for the Roughriders.
Other Port Angeles placers were 106-pounders Cody Anderson and Ben Basden, who shared third place, Brady Anderson (120 pounds, third place), Kyle La Fritz (220 pounds, third), Ricky Crawford (145 pounds, fifth), Brandyn Fouts (160 pounds, fifth) and Evan Gallacci (182 pounds, fifth).
The Riders next travel to North Mason on Thursday for an important Olympic League dual with JV matches starting at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7 p.m.

ABERDEEN — The Bruins lost a close battle with the Loggers.
“I was very pleased with the three freshman: Mariah LaChester, Jennica Maines and Molly McCoy,” Clallam Bay coach Kathleen Winter said.
“All three had good a good game for us.”
McCoy scored six points for the Bruins.
“We got a lot of good looks, but couldn’t get much to fall,” Winter said.
“We shot only 21 percent in the first half, most of them from inside the key.”
The Bruins return to action Wednesday when they travel to Joyce to face Crescent.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders suffered their first setback of the season to last season’s 2A runner-up.
Port Angeles struggled offensively against the taller Bearcats, who played a 2-3 zone for most of the game.
“Their height on defense — two girls at 6-foot-3, one at 6-foot-2, another at 6-foot-0 — and their quickness caused us difficulty in our zone offense,” Port Angeles coach Mike Poindexter said of Saturday’s game.
“We had trouble seeing passing options and had a bit of tightness offensively; that resulted in a 16 percent field goal percentage. That pretty much was the story of the game.
“Early on, we struggled with the Bearcats’ scoring from offensive rebounds, but that got better as the game progressed.”
Krista Johnson again reached double figures, leading the Riders with 14 points.
Maddy Hinrichs added eight points, Payton Lee scored five and freshman Nizhoni Wheeler finished with four.
“Overall, our effort was strong and much more consistent than it was against Kingston on Friday,” Poindexter said.
“We just have to shoot better than that to stay with a team with their height and talent.”
