CHIMACUM — Chimacum erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to win the Olympic League 1A Division softball championship with a 7-2 win over Coupeville.

The victory lifted Chimacum (7-1, 9-3) to its third consecutive Olympic League title, a season sweep of the Wolves and a bye in the first round of the Class 1A West Central District Tournament next weekend at Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway.

Second-place Coupeville (6-3, 15-3)) needed to win the game to have a chance to tie for the league title.

Pitcher Holly Snider went the distance for the Cowboys, giving up just one earned run, striking out five and walking two. Coupeville’s Katrina McGranahan kept Chimacum at bay for five innings, allowing just one run until the Cowboys blew up in the sixth.

Snider, Bradyn Nelson and Kelle Settje all had two RBIs, Lauren Montgomery and Nelson each had two hits, with Montgomery hitting a double. Shanya Nisbet also added a double and an RBI, walking twice and scoring a run.

Chimacum plays at home today against Forks at 4 p.m.

BUCKLEY — In a battle of softball heavyweights, the Port Angeles girls came up big, hitting three home runs and pounding out 15 hits in an 18-3 romp over a White River Hornets team that had only lost one game all year.

White River was 14-1 coming into Monday’s game and ranked No. 5 in the state by the Tacoma News-Tribune. Port Angeles (11-0, 15-1) is ranked No. 8.

“This was our best all-around game of the season and against one of the top teams in the South Puget Sound League,” said coach Randy Steinman.

Natalie Steinman, Kylee Reid and Nizhoni Wheeler all hit home runs. Steinman finished the game with five RBIs.

Lauren Lunt and Ashley Howell also had two hits, with one of Lunt’s hits a double.

On the rubber, Wheeler and Hope O’Connor combined to five-hit the Hornets while striking out 10.

The Olympic League 2A champion Roughriders will hold senior night in their final home game at 4:15 p.m. today against Kingston.

Sequim 4, Olympic 3

BREMERTON — The Wolves jumped into second place in the Olympic League 2A League with a clutch win over the Trojans.

Monday’s win puts Sequim at 7-4 in league (9-7 overall), effectively tied with 6-3 North Kitsap. The Wolves and Vikings played Tuesday after press deadline. The Vikings still have to make up rainouts, playing a doubleheader today against winless Bremerton, so it appears Sequim will have to win Tuesday to force a tie for second place.

Olympic came into Monday’s game 5-3 and a loss by the Wolves could have dropped them all the way down to fourth and in danger of missing the postseason.

Coach Tim Lusk said it was a pitchers’ duel between the Wolves’ Shelby Jones and Olympic’s Dani Snyder. Jones ended with six strikeouts.

Sequim scored four runs in the fourth with five straight hits by Bobbi Sparks, Jordan Bentz, Isabelle Dennis, Jones and Raelynn Opdyke. Olympic responded with three straight doubles in the sixth.

Lusk said the Trojans got the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but that left fielder Latisha Robideau made a shoestring catch to end the game.

Sparks had three hits for Sequim while Bentz had two.

Sequim finishes its regular season with a nonleague game against Coupeville at home at 3 p.m. today, then the Wolves prepare for district play next weekend.

Port Angeles JV 22, Port Townsend 0

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Angeles JV team beat the Redhawks varsity 22-1. Isabelle Cottam was the winning pitcher, while Rose Clark, Lucah Folden, and Cottam scored three runs each.
